Guys, thanks for the responses. I appreciate every one of them. I wrestled with even posting this thread but sometimes we have to get off our mind what's eating at us. Some folks don't have any use for horses or animals for that matter but they're our "boats, golf, fishing, sports, etc...". It's what we do. We don't work them or compete on them so they're pretty much hobby's or a part of our hobby of trail riding or wagon trains. We try not to think of them as pets but... I will say this, they are honest & giving if you find the right one. They return what is extended to them and will honestly treat you the way they're treated. I'm amazed by their senses sometimes. We have an appreciation for them that some probably won't understand because you either like them or you don't. There is a saying, by who I don't know, but it goes something like this, "There's nothing as good for the inside of a man as the outside of a horse." I tend to agree at least when talking about the things of this old world. Thanks again.

I Just think how the horse played a crucial part in our countr'ys history. I don't understand how anyone could not like a horse. Heck, the way the world is going, we may need them again someday soon.

Stinketh big time to loose a critter....

There is a small property I drive by going to work that has a somewhat steep pasture surrounding a pond. They keep a few horses in the pasture. Sometimes the horses will be along the road fence, which is a really nice looking fence. Often the horses just stand there and watch the traffic flow by.

Later year I drove by in the morning and one of the horses had slipped in the pond and could not get out. The owner was down there with a tractor....:eek:

Driving home that afternoon there was a large bump under a tarp. Next morning it looked like he had buried the horse. :(

He had a rough couple of days.

A month or so later one of his barns burned down. :confused2:

Later,
Dan

No explanations necessary, you're among friends here. :D

When was the last time a golf ball came running to greet you, or that a boat nuzzled your shoulder because it knew you had a bad day?

Jay, I am sorry to hear your story and the loss of that beautiful mare. I agree that it is tough to open up about the pain of losing an animal but it helps to let out the pain with like minded people.

I could have a whole lot more money and a lot less work if we did not have the horses. I think though that working with them is a window into your own soul as well as a window to the wild spirit that for the most part has vanished from our lives. I will keep the horses.

It has been a tough winter with severe weather with alot of rapid changes. Thats tough on animals. After this winter, I am going to make adding the extra circuits for my heated buckets a priority.

Anyway, I feel your pain.
