Has anyone had this problem? On the front of the hydraulic reservoir just above the lower pivot point my Hydraulic tank is leaking. It is undetectable to the human eye but I drained the 10/40 oil and put in UTF Red and it just very slowly seeps out of the weld. I am sure it can be re-welded but is in an awkward place. By the way I replaced my Kohler Command motor at 955 hours and I am putting together some information to post in the near future.

Sorry to hear about your crack. I remember one other person had a crack in their tank and had it welded with some reinforcement added. However, I don't remember which TBN member it was or what model PT. Sorry.

Looking forward to hear about your engine replacement.

It's me on my 1850, the crack is where the tub meets the oil reservoir at the very top. As I am sideways a lot I get a lot if weeping from it. My neighbor who is a 30 year heavy equipment mechanic has a fix in mind with angle iron braces as the first weld repair has cracked.

As an FYI, I had my ear break off in this area. It was on the control side and not the hub side. It is not as uncommon as I would have thought.

I will say that the quality control I'm the welds on my pt have been marginal. I have had three breaks over the years and each was related. To bad welds.

Can you post a picture where the crack is located? I have noticed on my 422 that the top of hydraulic reservoir always a sheen of oil on it. I wipe it down all the time and it comes right back. I want to paint the tractor at some point but I need to find where this oil is coming from first.

Yours is leaking past the cork they used to seal the lid on the hydraulic tank. There are some threads on TBN about how some people have handled it.

I see that someone told you what your problem was with the reservoir. When I took the cover off to get all the oil out of the reservoir i notice that the "seal" was a compound that they used to seal it but it had dried out and become hard. The result a fine spray present on the top of the tank. After I had my tank welded I purchased some gasket material and sealed mine up.

Frank, pull the cover off carefully keeping any debris out of the tank, clean the cover and the top of the tank and use a gasket maker/sealant(I think I used a Loctite brand) and reattach plate. No more mess and very easy & inexpensive fix.

Thanks, I think I will try that sometime this week. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Two notes..

You will be using silcone gasket maker (affectionatly called Blue Goo). You need to make sure both sides are SPOTLESS in terms of removal of old sealant.

Second, dont forget to go around the screw holes completely so if you were drawing a line of goo it would look something like this without the breaks

Hope this helps.
