Hale damage to shingle roof.. Any roofers around?

I saw a hidden camera thing on tv. The contractor inspecting the roof was actually damaging the roof to make a sale.

I would be careful . You could end up with a new roof worse than the original .
Know and trust your contractor.

Sorry I don't believe that the insurance companies are paying based solely on that.

They know when and where the hail storms have been.

I am more sorry, because I guess your not actually reading my posts.

Please note: I posted, "So, these contractors watch the weather, and invade neighborhoods on any report of hail, declaring every roof they "inspect" damaged".

Not making this all up, I have been there personally, and seen it all happen.

I have also asked, and been told, by State Farm why they continue to pay these claims, when they know what is going on. This information was also included this in my first post.

I have inspected roofs of friends, family, and customers, that were deemed "damaged" and in need of replacement, by a contractor canvasing their neighborhood after a hail storm. Personally, I have yet to see one that showed any sign of damage. If it did, that would be fine with me. They would make a claim, and I would take the job of replacing it. I could always use more work, especially in this economy. But, I am not willing to participate in their fraud, just to get a job.

So since you can't see it it isn't damaged?

Come on.

I would say it's a pretty safe position to take, that if there is no visible damage, it is in fact not damaged. That's how most insurance losses are evaluated.

Those pics from post 13 clearly show shingle damage though.

The damage may not be visible immediately. That doesn't mean it isn't damaged.

My only fight in this pissin match is that Ray wrote off the whole fact that hail damage is real and said it is total BS, when in fact it isnt
Now he is arguing that there are scam artists out there.
When in fact there are scam artists out everywhere

We had 20 yr roof and a hail storm came through. A contractor came to our door to request he be allowed to look at the roof for possible damage. The deal was if there was enough damage to warrant calling the insurance company he would let us know. After he looked he felt there was damage and we called our insurer. We contacted the insurance company and had an adjuster visit and agreed the roof needed to be replaced. The contractor was at our home when the adjuster visited. The adjuster wrote a check and we held it. After the work was complete we gave it to the roofer plus our deductable. We had dimples in our roof and crushed or broken places on the edges of shingles. I had cleaned the gutters shortly after the adjusters visit and the were more gravel in gutters than normal and I believe this was a result of the storm. We met with the roofed several times and I had a good feel from their representative and ultimately happy with the work. The roofed is not in Ten. Area though.

I also explained what I meant later, and that was not it. Sorry you missed the point.

I didn't realize that if I pointed out how some in the roofing business are running a scam, you would mistakenly believe I was suggesting only the roofing business has scams. Sorry for the confusion there too.

The damage may not be visible immediately. That doesn't mean it isn't damaged.

Well it's impossible to argue with that, but also impossible to prove or disprove until X period of time passed.

I have not seen a delayed reaction like that but also have never seen anything larger than 1 inch hail, and only seen any size hail on a rare occasions. The one time we had the 1+ inch hail is when all the scammers came out of the wood work and the damage they claimed in this case was almost 100% BS. No delayed reaction either as this was a 2-3 years ago, especially on the few slate roofs I looked at, at the time.

The worst part is the blue tarp roofs everywhere, for minor or non visible shingle granule damage!!!
All nailed down with furring strips all over the roof, if there wasn't a problem before that tarp went up there surely is after :confused2:
That's a pet peeve of mine anyway, putting tarps on roofs for any kind of minor damage or leak, not only doesn't help but sometimes makes things worse. There are exceptions off course, like if a roof has been stripped and a thunderstorm comes up. But most of the time it's worthless.

I know a couple of local contractors that make all their money on insurance jobs. They have it down to a science, and have been very successful, in business for 30+ years. I'm not saying anyone who works for insurance companies is dishonest, but there are definitely some areas of that industry that, lets just say, are not very efficient.

Back in the 80's a major hail storm went through central Florida. It cost the insurance companies hundreds of millions of dollars in damage in roof and car damage. I had family in the area that got hit by the storm and the insurance companies paid to replace the asphalt roofs.

If your car was outside in the storm it was totaled because of the hail damage. My cousin's car looked like a bunch of maniacs had hit the car over every square inch with ball peen hammers. Dangest thing to see. No way that was good for the roof on the house.

Dan
