some idiot broke my tractor.

YM1510

Bent the steering arm (from steering box to the front axle) like a bananna.

Should I:-

a) bend it 'straight' - and can someone provide a pic of a 'good' one?
b) get a new one - as Im in the UK that means USA sale, and international transport costs?

land is flat, with nothing dangerous, and no other traffic, so safety is low on the scale here.

I would do both, fix that one till the new one gets there. Then start a thread : best gun to take out a ham fisted monkey !

I'm not trying to be snide: If the land is so flat, and safe, how did your drag link get bent in the first place? I'm probably among the least safety-**** like around here, but if the factory part bent, I'd worry a lot about my improvised replacement.

Having said that, it shouldn't be a big issue to get one made. Any decent fabrication shop will have the tubing as scrap, so you would simply need to pull the ball joints off your original and have them bend something up to match. It looks like the kinks in the draglink is to make it clear the axle at full articulation or other parts, so make sure they get as close to the original shape as possible. (I know yours is bent.)

If it were straight, it would be a simple matter to buy a piece of tube that fits over the drag link and tack weld the sleeve on, thus reinforcing it all. I don't think that will work here, though.

Previous owner did something similar to my 1510. I haven't had any problem with his repair.

I would straighten it probably take it off and put it in a press or get a long bar or a bottle jack and a chain and do it on the machine.

Try a blacksmith.

I would recommend cold straightening, I don't think you should heat it at all. The heat will weaken the steel alot. Try a press or a vise like someone mentioned earlier. Good luck.
