Yep,

My beagle blood comes from my Grandfather (RIP) from NE Miss.....never would have realized it'd be a passion that would stick......mine don't field trail but they hunt real hard after these Snowshoe Hares we have up here....

The Garmin Tracking collars allow us to keep up with them while they do their thing.....Technology is Great.....

I have a Garmin Etrex and it's great except when I'm in the forest under heavy tree cover. It can't find the satellites in those conditions.

I upgraded from the Garmin Etrex Legend to the Garmin 60CSX. The Etrex Legend had everything that I wanted in a hand held as far as the logistics and ease of use. The shortcomings with the Etrex Legend was poor satellite aquisition. Sometimes from a cold start the legend would take 30-45 minutes to aquire a precise satellite fix. The etrex had a screen that was almost impossible to see in bright daylight. And the etrex wouldn't work under trees. My 60CSX will aquire a precise satellite aquisition the instant it powers up from a cold start. It's (color) screen is easily seen in bright daylight. And it has exceptional reception under a forest canopy. The Etrex Legend is a superb GPS unit. The Garmin 60CSX is the Etrex Legend on steroids and still has all the good stuff I loved in my old Etrex.

IIRC, the Garmin 60CSX is the same base unit that is used in the Astro Dog Tracker....Is it not?.....

As with most of this High Tech stuff....you get what you pay for (Mostly)....and my Garmin Hand Held has not let me down......although I do handle it carefully, the dog collars go through HE double hockey sticks.....Mud, water, dirt, sand, rocks and lots of miles.......I'm amazed they still work....

I haven't looked deep yet but there is a software that overlays your track history on top of Google Earth Maps.....Now that's cool......http://motionbased.com/

My son has an astro and he uses it with our German wired hair pointer. It is really a great unit and I am always amazed at the tracking and plotting results he gets with the unit.

Even helped him find the dog when it cornered a porcupine. Didn't help keeping the quills out of the dog’s mouth though!

I have a 60CSx. Used it in Yosemite this last weekend, mostly to track elevation change(requirements for hiking and camping merit badges). I really like it. I use a Nuvi in the car thought.
