Hand Push Lawn Mower

I googled a page of antique push reel mowers. None are as large as I remembered in my minds eye. But, man, the old-time quality in many of them is obvious.

Reel mowers (when properly adjusted) are the only type of mower to actually cut the grass. All mowers with spinning blades just beat the grass apart.

On a side note, I'd just use the tractor to regrade the property to make it mowable from a riding mower or tractor. Work smarter, not harder!

Thank you for the reference. Lehmans looks like a quality mower. I checked some local ads at the garden store and several people eiher have that kind or ones that look just like them for sale used. I'll go have a look.
Judging by the philosophy that Lehman's web site seems to be advocating, they would probably agree with recycling a used mower anyway.

This thead has made me think the whole lawn care thing over again. So far I'm still thinking that for a regular size lawn a push mower combined with an battery-powerd string trmmer would be a good combo here.

Re: the manual vs powered comments: Frankly I've wished for years that I could get my wife to use more powered tools; she's reasonable enough about using them when there's no alternative.
But I'm finally realizing she really does prefer working without the smell & noise.
If working the way she does makes her happy, what's wrong with that?

I sold my 40 foot Shattuck reel mower 15 years ago. It would cover an acre in under a minute.

It was the same as this 30 footer pictured.

40 acre field mowed in under an hour including a coffee break. 3 days to string trim edges. LOL

Noticed this today at an ACE Hardware:

There is not a chance I'd pay that. Take the 1 off the front and maybe I'd consider it.

The Scott's hand mower I bought 40 years ago was a well-built machine. Well worth that, in fact may have cost that much even then. But it was a different design so I'm not sure the same could be said about this one.
