Will,

I own what's considered a chic gun in most firearm
circles. It's a S&W 38 cal. snubnose. I like it because I carry
a concealed permit and I use a low profile inward belt
holster. Knoweone knows I have it on. It's actually very
acurate within 30 to 40'. For hunting trips?...mabye not unless
your hunting in the city /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The element of suprise my friend /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I was notified Friday that my permit has been approved. I bought a Browning Buckmark Saturday, can't wait to pick it up. I have to make a trip to the Sherriff's office to pick up the permit before I can pick up the pistol. I can't wait to try it out next Saturday!
I have been looking at handguns, keeping in mind all the advice you have given me. It is hard to get a feel for them, as you can't legally handle a handgun in New York unless you are licensed. Now, I'll be able to at least see what feels right in my hands.
Thanks again,
Will

Congrats Will C. Where are you in upstate? I have a Buckmark .22, fun to shoot. Keep it clean, and ammo clean, mine jams every now and then but overall a fun, accurate gun.

To add to this old post, I just bought a S&W 686, 6" barrel. It should be a good gun to learn centerfire revolver shooting. Thanks for all the advice.

HGM, It is a .357 magnum. I have been shooting .38 specials in it to get a feel for it, this is my first centerfire handgun.

Did you get the 6 shot or 7 shot? I have a S&W 686 w/ a 2" barrel and it's a 7 shot model. It's one of my favorite pistols to shoot. I'd love to have it in titanium or something lighter weight. It would make a great fanny pack pistol then. Right now I have a Glock 29 w/ the internal Lasermax I carry in a fanny pack at times, but it still gets heavy and can smack you in the wrong place if you jog any.

686 is my favorite revolver, I've got a 4" & 6", both older 6 shots.

I got the 7shot model. There are some lighter weight L frames in the S+W catalog I got at the sporting goods store.
