I used to date one, too. In fact, I've been married to her for nearly 41 years now. She fired one shot from one of revolvers when we were dating. I think that's been the extent of her experience with firearms.

I'll second the P226. I have approximately 7 - 8,000 rounds through mine (all handloads) and I've still never had a jam. I've had a few on my P230 (.380) but never the 226.

I have the Gun Vault mounted in my travel trailer. Works great. I have a 700lb Remington safe at home where the hunting rifles and revolvers reside. The SIG P229 is always loaded, ready to use, and close by, if not on my person. The children know not to touch it, although I do try to make sure it is up high for extra safety if at home.
I even have a RWS pelllet pistol that is designed like the SIG. It has the same weight, decocker, almost everything is same feel. It is CO2 powered, with an 8 shot magazine. Makes for great cheaper safer practice time. NOTHING will substitute for practice, practice, practice.
