here is a link to the structural screws i was talking about for anyone interested.. I was trying to use the 'bracket' listed in the first post for hanging the swing.. The mfg recommented .276 structural screws for mounting it.

I have used similar screws to mount TVs to the wall etc and they install very easily with no pre-drilling required.. NO issues with them so far in these applications..


here is also the "ratings" chart for these screws - id love the opinions/thoughts in general for usage..

Sounds like you are figuring out how to mount it, we have two & the local hardware store owner strongly recommended we put springs at the top of chain which I was skeptical but he is right it absorbs a lot of shock not to mention makes the swings feel like they have a shock absorber.

ill look into the springs.. seems like a good idea..

FWIW... 0.276" is 7 mm.

My swing can fit as many as 3 people so I went into the attic above and screwed some 2x10's spanning across the 2x4 rafters. I measured and purchased long threaded eye bolts with nuts and washers. Not only did this give me a more sound mount, it allowed me to center the swing on the porch perfectly.

I also have springs, they are helpful for people that like to plop when they sit :laughing:

The springs are the bomb!!! they really add a LOT to the comfort of the swing..
