Hanging heater (furnace)?????"s

I'm either going to try to find a used 330 gallon tank, or run another line from current 500 gallon tank.

Smart decision. Having its own tank is the best way to go. A 100# cylinder could never run a 200,000 btu furnace economically because it can only vaporize 2.4 pounds of propane an hour at 20 degrees Fahrenheit. That's only 52000 BTU's and the furnace wants 200,000. Even the planned 330 gallon tank would be taxed pretty hard if the temps got lower than 10 degrees F.

A 500 gallon tank would be the smallest I would run it off of. That would produce just over 200,000 btu's at zero degrees.

The vaporization rates are figured with the tank at 20% full.

I thought you had to use copper lines? If I remember correctly, you only have to bury the line about a foot.

I got this furnace years ago for nothing and it's just been sitting. After this winter, it's time to use it!
When I first got it, I hooked up a 20 lb tank from my grill just to try it. It would work then stop. I think because of the small grill regulator.

Now I just need to figure out how to hook it all up along with venting it?????

Thanks guys

You can run plastic piping to supply the garage. The special plastic pipe is rated for gas use. It must not have any plastic exposed. You will have to use special risers to bring it out of the ground. You can also run copper if you wish. You can also run black iron pipe as long as it's coated for under ground use. You can also use Galvanized pipe... Bury 2.5-3'deep... to size the line you'll need to know the distance from the tank to the garage,,,the pressure that you'll have available to you. We already know the furnace BTU'S

Google plastic gas pipe and risers to see if you can purchase it in your local area

no, i used copper lines for my air in the shop. The gas was buried 24" as i recall) and they used the orange plastic piping. one continuous piece.
