<font color="blue"> Have any of you ever had bind weed get into your garden? Really hard to eliminate and grows very deep.

Bill I really wasn't sure what bind weed was until I did a Google search. If the plant has small white flowers like the pictures that I saw, then no, I am not plagued with bind weed.

I do get my share of weeds but no more so than before I started using composted manure. I cultivate to keep weeds under control.

However my garden has never deserved a position in the Home & Garden magazine.

Bind weed.... here I think we call it wild morning glory vine. I help my Niece out with her garden, and last year they rotated their garden to a different area. Unfortunately, there was a lot of morning glory in one area....where we planted tomatoes and peppers. The vines climbed all over the tomato cages and wrapped around the pepper stems, etc. This yr, they are trying to figure out whether to move the garden again, or what to do. The roots are long and white, and go very deep. You can pull one up, but if the tiniest bit of root breaks off, it just grows again. A very pesky problem. I think a person needs to keep that spot set aside and spray roundup a couple yrs in a row to get rid of it. I can see why it might be called "bind weed", as those vines just wrap around everything and choke the life out of them. Very annoying weed.

My problem is the nutgrass. It grows straight up, and gets big making it easy to pull by hand, but man it's prolific. And it seems to drink roundup without a problem. I've seen it grow right through the bottom of a swimming pool liner.

Takes more than a few years to eradicate it. It spreads both by roots (runners) and seed. The seed is viable for up to 20 years. The procedure is never to let a sprig survive. I got rid of it in my garden (at least haven't seen any in many years) and almost in the lawn. Got to be a regular thing to patrol with a spray bottle of 24d (in the lawn) and Roundup (in the garden). Still see some in the lawn occasionally.
