Tractor
Ford/New Holland TC18
I just bought a 2001 tc18 NH,Man what a sweet little tractor! I was looking for Green or Orange and didn't even think of a Ford NH,then saw an ad that I couldn't resist. The tractor is like new with only 280 hours and a good start on impliments, Fun! Allready I am thinking of all the things that I can do with the tractor and FEL rather than Manuel Labor, (I never did like him) I have been enjoying the tips and advise from all of you and look forward to being a part of the forum.

Let me be the first to congradulate you on your purchase and welcome you to the forum. When you start asking questions the first thing people are going to ask is where are you located, take a minute to add a little to your profile.

I did a lot with Manuel for a couple of years and thought the tractor would replace him as well, turns out the projects got bigger and I still use him a lot. We do get a lot more done though. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Congratulations on finding Manuel's helper. Keep him around though, as he will be needed when you least expect it.

Please send pictures! We need pictures to satisfy our needs! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Funny thing about ole Manuel, he has disappeared from my house.

My wife just loves to have a fire burning in the fireplace when she comes home from work every night. For years I loaded the fire wood in the wheelbarrow, pushed it 300 yards, then carried it up 8 stairs to the back door where it was stacked on the deck. Now I drive right to the pile, fill the bucket full, drive up to the deck (with hydro transmission of course), then raise the bucket up right over the rail where the firewood it neately stacked right under the bucket. No more toting wood for this redneck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I love my "Big Blue Wheelbarrow" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now that sounds real familiar, except I bring it into the garage to the passthrough next to the stove. It's also a lot neater than having the wood stacked in the living room. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Next thing you guys need is a set of forks. Palletization saves a lot of work.

I fell and saw a tree, drive up to it with my TC33 with an FEL mounted splitter. Move the tractor down the line of logs splitting as I go. As the logs are split, I stack them on pallets. I can move them around, stack them two high, and put them in and out of my truck (I take a lot of wood back to my City house from the farm) with little effort. You can fit two to three times as much wood on a pallet as in the bucket. Just like with any warehouse operation, palletization minimizes handling and increases efficiency.

I'm cleaning up fallen timber in the woods most of the time. I cut to length in the woods, haul to a splitting area where I have at it with an 8 or 12 lb maul, stack it under roof for at least a year, then take it down to the house to burn. It is a lot of handling, but it's also good exercise that makes my back and whole body feel better.

Besides, by the time I burn it, I feel like I know each piece of wood personally. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ... "Oh, yeah, I remember you. You're out of that storm blown Red Oak in the north woods, third section up from the base."
