<font color=blue>"One of the Scandinnavian Countries bases it's traffic fines on personal income."</font color=blue>

I remember seeing that somewhere. So a speeder who's wealthy must be able to maim and kill more than a speeder who's without means, huh? Otherwise the danger to the public would be deemed the same.

Perhaps viewing the statement with different contex in mind would alter the elucidation.

A different context? How about 'A person of no means whatsoever can speed with absolute impunity while someone who's worked hard and created jobs and benefitted his community by his presence there has his property unfairly taken for the same offense just because he has something to take?'

As I've thought of the story of the Scandanavian country of which you wrote I recalled why it made the news when I saw it. As I recall it the chief executive or owner of a major internationally known company (possibly Volvo) was the subject of the story. Again, as I recall it, his simple traffic fine for speeding was some astronomical amount exceeding the equivalent of US$1 million.

If you feel something like that is fair then we'll never see eye to eye on this. There's nothing wrong with that. We're each entitled to our views. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I would be curious to learn the context in which you feel something like this would be fair if you'd care to share that with me. I really can't understand it, myself. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

There's an old story that says
"You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink
Perspective is a difficult concept to accept.

Another old adage is

"from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs"

Well said Mike and Egon. BTW who's Paul? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Maybe "Paul" will have something new to say , but I watch Pro Football, because I enjoy it!!! I'm not here to debate about the rights, and wrongs of it. I don't always agree with the prices paid to players, but I also don't agree a new car should cost $20,000, or now that we mention a Compact tractor should cost $15,000. And guess what guys some of those people are overpaid too. Smaller scale , I know.

Mike,

I mentioned that very same Karl Marx quote about eight or ten posts back. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Egon,

It's obvious to me you're not interested or prepared to discuss or debate this logically. What you resorted to with this remark is known as an 'ad hominem' argument. It's one of many ploys used when facts don't support you.

You certainly appear to want to move to a more socialized economic system. Maybe Karl Marx is a hero of yours. I don't know. I just happen to like the system we have where hard work is rewarded. If you don't, that's certainly one of the many rights this system guarantees you. I'm glad you choose to at least enjoy some of the benefits of the system you dislike.

Now; have I ever mentioned debate? All I ever did was make a statement backed by facts which you supported.
And This Marx fellow, how and why have you determined I am a fan of his?
If this is the case why has he, or his supporters not returned the thousands of acres of land in the Yalta peninsula that was confiscated from my family.
Sounds like the MaCarty era is revived and doing well with some factions south of the border.
