I see Harbor Freight has some paint guns in their ad. I was thinking I should get one for painting implements I make, maybe a tractor some day. Anybody use their paint guns? Which one(s)? Are theirs any good? What to look for in a paint gun? I have never actually used one so.....

Thanks!

Charles

I do not have any of the paint guns. But the other day I was looking around and came across this forum about Habor Freight tools. Much info on their stuff.

Harbor Freight - WeldingWeb™ - Professional Welding Forum

And this link is to a "HF tools that don't stink". There is a mention that the paint guns are good.

I bought one of their 8 gallon air compressors several years ago. Can't kill it so I can get a better one. When I'm using my plasma cutter it runs continous and sometimes overheats, shutsoff. But then it comes back on after a few minutes. No I don't have the HF plasma cutter. Mine is a Miller...

jim I have bought a lot of paint ,nail, and other tools from harbor freight and found that if you check the sales items list most times you can buy the same product at a little lower cost, and find some good buys , I haven't had many problems with the tools I buy , but you get what you pay for!! not to bad.

Charles, I buy and use harbor freight paint guns regularly. The quality isn't great, but I just use them 4 or 5 times and through them in my alum can. I rinse them out with paint thinner for the first few uses and leave the thinner in the guns to mix with the next paint. I don't claim to be a pro and don't want anyone to think I am. You get what you pay for and in my case I pay for a paint gun I can use and then throw it out. At 9 or 10 bucks each I can't afford to clean them to many times, and I have found that a new cheap gun will paint as good as I can. HTH, later, Nat

I get HF catalogues in the mail and just found out that the store will honor the price if it is lower than the in store or the price in the flyers in the store. I thought they were for order only.

It wasn't HF but a number of years ago the patent on one of the DeVilibiss guns ran out and I believe a copy was produced in Japan, well I bought one and it has been great. When I needed parts I bought DeVilibiss parts and they matched.

I have had very good results with the $40 HVLP gravity feed gun and the $8 touchup gun. Cant be beat for the value aspect.

I use The Harbor Freight Model 43430 HVLP gun with very good results after following the setup information I found on a website.(See link Below) Bought mine on sale for $40.00. Never used a spray gun before, always rattle cans, but wanted better coverage, and more choice of paints. This gun and the setup info simplified the learning curve.

I used this gun to re-paint a tandem axle trailer and it worked great. At least for this gun, if you clean it up good, it is perfect for this type of painting. The other nice bonus is that it has its own built in blower (compressor) ... If I recall I paid around $40 for this unit

I have one of HF #47016, gravity feed guns and it works great for farm, implement paints, which don't require high quality finishes, (at least not for me anyway). If I were painting a car or truck, the money for quality guns is different, (another story all in its own). It works great as long as I clean it well after use. The only complaint is the cup is a little small and requires a lot of down time to refill. But, for as much as I paint, a whole whoopin $15.00 is not too much of a loss. If it goes south on me I'm not out anything.

The guns are decent and the quality of the color is about what you would expect from one of it's caliber.

I use them, both the old and new HVLP. For a hack like me, they work ok. For implements, they beat the heck out of a brush. Just don't get delusions of adequacy and try to paint a show car finish with one. The gravity feed guns are easier to use, but take care not to drip out the top onto the parts.

I used one of HF's $40 HVLP spray guns to paint my 1964 MF-135 diesel

Easy to use. Cleans up nicely. Ran the gun off my $90 two gallon HF air compressor with no problem.

I also bought one of HF's $40 HVLP spray guns to paint a 16' livestock trailer inside and out. Only holding 20 ounces of paint meant that I had to stop what I was doing and refill frequently as you would imagine. Professional finish? Not by a long shot. But then, I am not a professional. I just raise goats. Worth the money? Absolutely!

I, too, have heard "good" things about the HF HVLP sprayers, but haven't tried one so the only thing I can add to this is to avoid the $15 "airless" sprayer (buzzbomb) - wife bought one for spraying urethane on doors after she killed my 1 qt sprayer (not hvlp) and found that she put more finish on the surroundings than the door. poor pattern, splotchy, bad overspray, etc...

RIght now it looks like those guns are on sale for $29.95

Ive bought a BUNCH of the HVLP guns. Got the first on sale for $14.95. Painted a set of disks for my tractor. The guy that helped me liked it so much..I went the next week to get another one ( for him) and they were on sale for $12.94.

I called to see what a new set of "guts" would set me back if / when they went south..and they wanted more than the price of the whole gun on sale?? I said the heck with that..and about 4 weeks later they had them on sale again for ..get this..$9.95. I went and bought one and didnt even take it out of the box.

While I was there ..they had a larger canistor for them on sale for $9.95...so I bought that also.

Later on picked up the HVLP touchup gun for $7.95...and the largest
"all metal" low pressure gun they sell for $15.95. Ive got enough now to "hold me"....:D

Together my farmer buddy and I have sprayed 2 car haulers; 1 stock trailer and numerous tractor impliments. They work as well as the guy operating the gun.
