Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

I think your Lowes example is accurate as a template for mainstream retailers.

I don't think HF fits that mold. They've very deliberately cultivated a coupon culture with their marketing, and I think it's one of the key drivers for their business. Yes, they'll put restrictions on, as economics dictate: Low margin/high demand items as exclusions, some items becoming too costly to give away as freebies.

I don't ever remember seeing coupons on Lowe's receipts. Maybe a regional thing? Supermarkets around here do that, but they're the only places I've seen with coupons on receipts.

Agree on HF and coupons. They'd probably lose a lot of business if they ever did away with them. As noted earlier, lots of items almost always have coupons, it's like that's the "real" price...posted prices are for total newbies.

Dunno. Just says 'Come back between these dates (usually only a week or so) and save 10% on a $50 purchase.' Not really any restrictions except for closeouts and a couple of brands.

Started getting them a couple of months back, but not on my last trip last week.

I asked a manager about that many years ago. He said their register would not allow more than one coupon input per transaction.

Bruce

To my point: It does now.

I like Digginit's comment..
They advertise the air compressors in every flyer & email I receive..
its always the same prices but they market them like its a "Last Chance/Blowout Sale"..
The 21 gallon has been 130.00.. but the "Blowout Sale" has them for 150.00.!!! Lol..
& I too have ONLY gotten the free blue flashlite coupons {email}for a month, but get a NEW "Blowout Sale" emails weekly..

In Canada, Canadian Tire seems to have adopted the "Harbor Frt' method of marketing.
That is, discounting most items on a regular basis but via mail circulars.
Those circulars always have a BOLD saving amount showing with the so called regular price.
To justify the so call regular list price they mail a catalogue to every home address.
Mind U most often a person can better the CTC price going online, especially if from China if U are not in a hurry.

My observation is , for same item, Sears is highest, Cdn Tire next followed by internet (offshore).
Oddly enough some local Ma and Pa stores (that are not greedy) often are the best bet.

When it comes to clothing offshore is simply scary due to non standard sizing.
Don't even ask about shoes! LOL, no Asian wears 12's or 13's, plus again add widths. I am 12 Wide!

Also, on some sale or coupon items (more expensive items) they do not accept the 20% off AND the coupon or sale price. It is often less $ to use the full price and 20% off rather than the sale or coupon price....
