The rare earth magnets definitely don't suck.
I needed to modify the airflow in my home recording studio. It seems like it's always too cold in there. Even with the vent closed, there is still air coming out, so I decided to get one of those magnetic vent covers. Those things probably work great on the floor, but not so much on the ceiling. Just not quite enough umph to hold it in place when the air is blowing. They were $7 for a pack of three from the local Ace hardware store, so I was going to take them back. But then I remembered a few people talking about how strong those little rare earth magnets are from Harbor Freight. So, I took a drive there Saturday and picked up a pack of them. Strong is an understatement. I chuckled at myself trying to pry them apart. They definitely hold the weak magnet cover in place.
