Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

Cali, I'd be careful replacing them with rope. You need something that will stretch and give under stress. If you tie it with rope, your tarp will be ripped up next wind storm you get.
Oops. Back to the drawing board!

Any rubber product will deteriorate in the sunlight over time. Exposure to excessive ozone from electric motors works quickly on rubber and plastics to rot them out. THe black rubber last longer due to the black pigment blocking the UV rays to an extent, but they wont last forever either. Just have to keep replacing them as they show signs of dry rot.

I used the HF hyd hose assemblies on my log splitter project. So far they are holding up just fine and only cost $6.99 ea.
Question: anyone have or used the HF generators?(complete units) I'm looking for a unit in the 3500 watt range. We get power outages here fairly often, but only for a day, two at the most, so we just need to run a TV, fridge, and some lights. HF doesn't list the db rating on theirs, kinda leery of that.

I thought about buying one, but after researching it on the internet it seems that Chinese generators are a crap shoot. One sample might be great and another will throw its windings after a few hours - just not enough quality control. Around here there are a lot of lightly used generators on Craigslist from good manufacturers. People buy them for back up, use them a couple of times, and then sell them at a significant discount. I think that might be a better buy.

I noticed that Costco sells Chinese generators now, too. If they extend their return-at-any-time-for-a-refund guarantee to generators, that might be another way to go.

Picked up one of the HF 2 stroke augers on sale and had a coupon off so it was something like $160. Darn thing works pretty good. being 2 stroke it isn't position sensitive either as long as you keep the fuel pickup submerged. I want to do some probing into a hill side attempting to improve a spring flow with it. Already used it to drill a hole for a sat dish antenna support pipe in a very steep rocky area I couldn't get the tractor to, worked great. Surprisingly the thing looks to be pretty well made too...

When a threat gets this large, it is almost impossible to know if this item has been talked about, but here goes.

SDS Rotary Hammer, I am handyman/audio video guy. I have used this to bust thru concrete walls to run cable, etc. It comes with bits and a chisel. Has already paid for itself in savings over the bosch units I would rent. BTW, this seems to be a clone of the bosch. For my occasional use it is great. There is nothing quite like a hammer drill to make short work of drilling thru concrete, if you have ever tried even small holes (like ones for tapcons) with a regular drill, they are a major bear! This tool makes very short work out of it!
