Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

Smart girl,

Car ports are not that expensive and you have an instant covered storage area in a day. Been thinking about using one for firewood storage and to keep the rain and snow off the tractor attachments.

I burn a lot of wood and use 2 of these for wood storage. Watching for a deal to use one for implements for my CUT. Working well for 5 years.

We have used one for years and made some improvements. Put eyebolts around the perimeter for more secure tiedown, and pop riveted metal corner braces inside the plastic ones. Three kids to summer camp.....

Would like to see pics.

Here ya go. Needs painting, he's still recovering from stroke, but you can see how he built it like a pole barn. Sides are only anchored (3ft down), while the supports for the doors are on small concrete piers. This does not qualify as a permanent structure here and so is not taxed :)

I have used tent garages for years. Yes, they are short lived but that is what they are designed for. Shelter logic has replacement tarps and other parts for online ordering. I use RR ties bedded to the top in crushed gravel with a PT 2 X 10 tying them together at joints. I have even joined two end to end. Use galv floor flanges and pipe nipples for anchors, then drill a hole through and bolt through the nipple. Galv lag screws anchor the flange to the 2 X stringer. Never had one blow over since I started that idea. I have had wind blow the tarp apart though. Never lost a frame anchored that way.

Conversely, I have never used a HF one. They seem to pretty light weight; both frame and tarp.

ShooterDon.. before you go calling CarolinaCarPorts.. you better read he reviews.!!!
When I was looking for someone to build me a shop I searched & search.. & being in S. Carolina, naturally I looked into CCarports.. WOW..
I ended up going w/ Newmart Builders.. In LESS THAN a day, I had a 24x32 w/ a 10' roll-up sitting in my yard.. I went w/ the "hurricane" steel..
VERY HAPPY w/ it..

A winner! HF's version of a Dremel, Heavy Duty Variable Speed Rotary Tool
image_20682.jpg

I bought this a while back and used it for the first time today. It feels a lot more powerful than the Dremel tool I used for years.

Folks, wear a full face shield with these. I did, luckily. I had ordered additional tools for it via ebay, and a cheap rotary wire brush failed spectacularly. I pushed the wire brush too hard and its shaft bent to a right angle. At 35,000 rpm this made vibration so severe I thought it was electric shock, and it took a real struggle lasting a few seconds to get my hand back to the switch to shut it down. If it had flown off it would have hit hard. After a fresh tool was mounted it was clear that this near-disaster hadn't hurt the 'dremel'.

Summary - I think this equals the $50 (Amazon) real Dremel and I think it may exceed it. And - don't buy accessories for this from the cheapest Ebay seller!

+1 on the 120v HF rotary tool. I've had two for several years. Plenty of power, and definitely comparable to a corded Dremel.

I also have a couple of the HF 12v corded rotary tools. Ok for trimming dog nails and sharpening hoof knives, but not enough power for much else. I made up an adapter to plug one in to the 12v lighter plug in a truck or car.

If the most commonly sold vehicles in the USA are increasing $1000-$3000 as I read this morning one might consider any items containing metal planned for purchase in the next few years to get it done this week or as soon as possible.

Plans just announced to put tarriffs on an additional $200 billion of China imports will impact auto companies, Harbor Freight, Walmart, etc consumers.

I expect we are living in a time of fast changes and that Harbor Freight will be a favorite place for some of us for years to come. :)
