Hard hat/crash helmet for tractoring? Anyone?

If I did not have a steel canopy like yours and was working in a wooded area I would wear head protection. It would be a hard hat so as not to restrict vision or cause heat stroke.
I've seen some sizeable branches break off of trees when *rubbed* with a snowmobile and don't see anything happening any differently if you bump a dead tree with a tractor.

Wearing protective headgear can cover more areas than just impact protection!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Some of us with "Perfect Pates" require protection from the sun's rays and winters icy blasts. Hard hats are very effective at that. They also make a good mount for hearing protection and the brim will shade the eyes.

I usually wear either a hard hat with muffs or a Petzel climbing helmet and ear plugs.

5 mph bumbers help car collisions because some percentage of car collisions are at 5 mph or below. As tractor speeds tend to be generally less than car speeds, one could argue that adding 5 mph bumpers to tractors would be MORE beneficial. Surely, a higher percentage of tractor collisions occur at 5 mph or less than the percentage of car collisions at those speeds.

Same with airbags. If I recall, airbags in cars deploy somewhere between 10 and 14 mph. Heck, that's top speed for many of our tractors! What better safety than to have a device that is practically guaranteed to protect within the operating speeds of the machine. And some side-curtain airbags on the ROPS posts would be icing on the cake.

For many years light trucks offered rear wheel ABS to improve stability during braking. As tractors typically have ONLY rear brakes, this would be the ideal system, right?

So does the future of tractoring include 5 mph bumpers, air-bags and side-curtains and ABS? Let's hope there is some sensibility left in the world, eh /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What a coincidence. Just last night, I was told (by someone who says the love me?)that my head is the hardest thing on earth.

No hardhat, Just a "Southern States" hat and my "hard as diamonds" head.

I have had a falling branch or two hit my hard when I was working in the woods. The Hat definetly made it a better day for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
