I found a new trick today that seems to be working well. Set your HST response to the "slowest" setting (toggle switch pushed all the way into the "up" position) so that when you let off the foreword pedal it continues to roll for a bit. Be on a flat surface and initiate a roll then take your foot off of the foreword pedal. Right as it really slows but before it stops completely go ahead and switch gears. Just be careful (especially switching out of medium because high gear is right in line) that you do it slowly so you don't jam it into high gear unexpectedly. I made that mistake once, and was still rolling a bit too fast, and high gear caught and almost thrust me into a wall. Hopefully this makes sense and helps! It has been great for me.

I have the same problem on my TYM 394 HST. I never thought of bumping the pedals, but that does make sense. I'll try it in the am.

left side lower dash. shows a padlock looking design if I remember correctly. Three option rocker switch (up, middle, down)

Does anyone else with a tym 394 have a hard time shifting between low/med/high? Have tried bumping forward and back, rev up and down and nothing seems to help. Eventually it will shift but seems very hard. Our last tractor (2014 kubota 2920 hst) shifted very smooth between gears. It only has 49 hrs on it will it get easier after some use?

I am having problems on my 2018 TYM 394 also. Did you get this issue resolved I see it as a post from 2017. Mine seems to be stuck in high have tried just about everything trying to get it to move. It feels like there is no play whatsoever. It will not shift out of high. Only have 254 hours on it. Was not a fan of hydrostatic in the first place -came from a shuttle shift Kubota. The only thing I have not tried yet is to shut off the tractor and free up the hydraulics on the pedals to see if that might help releasing pressure. Will be trying that this morning. Would like to know if others are having other major issues where they have to take it apart to see what the problem is to repair. Thanks

These are hydro-static transmissions (HST) and shifting into the different ranges suck. I buddy actuall broke the shifter. I just pulled it to weld it back. So there is no clutch and no way to double clutch it either.

One thing we have seen with the shifter bending or breaking is the pivot bushing will rust to the boss and mounting bolt. Remove it, press out the bushing, clean every thing and apply never seize. You also need to make sure if it did bend at the tab that the lever has full range to catch all 3 gears. We find that this fixes the complaint of hard gear selection that most of the post described. Rocking the hydro pedals to unlock the torque is still recommended.

You also need to make sure if it did bend at the tab that the lever has full range to catch all 3 gears. We find that this fixes the complaint of hard gear selection that most of the post described. Do you have a picture of one? It looks like it might have been bent back a bit with the force. I can't seem to find an image via Google. Do you repair this often? As for the bushing, it is pretty free. It was attached with a long bolt and a bunch of washers.

Also, how much hydraulic fluid should this take?

A parts picture will not show any thing to help with a angel, If its bent a little bit it will trow it off. Check the weld it may have a faulty or cold weld on it,then your dealer can warranty it for a DEFECT.
Sometimes all the parts are rusted together and the bolt is actually loose and threading in and out as you shift.
I usually ream the boss on the shifter open a few thousands.
On Our tractors I only had this 2 times, once three weeks after the sale, once when showing a unit.
Since then we became proactive and made it another point to check while doing the Pre delivery inspection.
For Your hyd oil the book I think says 9 gal, that is wrong that is the spec for a 454, It takes 7.5 gal.
Also if you are draining the trans now would be the time to pull out the pick up screen and clean it.
Follow the pump pick up tube back to the rubber elbow clamped to the screens nipple.
This is on the left side, You will also have to drop the horizontal brace from the loader to the axle.

Thanks, I'm doing that. I was surprised to see how quickly that hydraulic fluid vented out. As soon as I saw the leak, I stopped using the tractor.
