I will try to get some and try it. I just know it should start a lot quicher than it does.

Somewhere in the manual I read about an injector pump adjustment. Is anyone ever worked on this?

I have a B8200, which is similar to a B20.

When it has run hot, I have noted the following:
- the screen in front of the radiator is blocked or clogged(grass, dust)
- The radiator is blocked or clogged(grass, dust)
- Engine oil is old

When I first got my tractor, it was used(425 hours). I put it right to work mowing. Ran low on power after a bit, and the oil light came on at idle. I changed engine oil and filter, air filter, and blew out the radiator screen. With a cool engine, I blew out, and then washed the radiator fins. Talk about a difference!

Shortly after, I changed the hydraulic fluid and filter, cleaned the strainers ect, just for good measure, and so I knew for sure everything was good. Changed the front axle and front final drive oil too.

I'd check those things. And, it won't hurt anything either way if they are nice and clean.

When you preheat the tractor does it start right up ?

What you said about the problem in your first post makes me wonder if the engine compression is low.

It starts a lot better after preheat but only after several turns. I have started some tractors recently and they fired before you could take your hand off the switch. My Kubota is not like that. It has to turn over the engine at least 5 times before it hits. You have to preheat again even if you just cut it off 5 mins ago.

Is it turning over fast enough? A weak battery could be the problem.

I am not an expert but I have learned that diesels need to spin a lot faster than gas engines to start. My guess is you may need the extra heat provided by the glow plugs to get it to fire off if it is not turning over quite fast enough.

Could also be a starter dragging if it's not spinning fast enough.

Its spinning real good, I think the battery is OK. How much trouble is it to check compression? I thought about taking it to the dealer and let them change the fluids and check out everything on it this winter. Does anyone know what all the dealer checks? Does anyone have a check list I can go by? I am using the tractor any time I need it as if nothing is wrong with it. I just want it to start better and I know it can. I called the dealer and they said it would be about $300 for this service(changing fluids and filters). I just want to make sure when I load it up and haul it to the dealer that everything gets checked. A check list would be nice to hand to the service manager when I get there. I dont want to load it up and haul it to the dealer, pay them $300 to change the oils and filters and then load it up haul it home unload and it still not start right. I have tools, a garage and some mechanical knowledge. I can do some stuff. I am just new to diesel engines.

I can't help but think that if it were me I would change the fluids/filters myself and take it to the dealer to get the hard starting problem fixed.

I would not confuse the issue by giving the dealer something he could certainly accomplish, that might divert his attention from the real issue.

$300 for changing fluids and filters is a little rich for my blood anyway. Plus, you already mentioned that you changed the filters last year, so you should not have a problem doing the same thing again and draining the fluids this time. Probably save yourself $200 that way, which can be used toward fixing the starting problem...

Just my 2 cents...

In order to check the compression you would need a tester and would need to remove the injectors.

I have a compression tester for my 8N, will that work? It just plugs into the spark plug hole, then you turn the tractor over with the starter a few times to get a reading. Are the injectors hard to remove? Do you take all 3 out at the same time?

Compression guage for gasoline engines won't work for diesels even if you could thread it in( which you probably couldn't). Gas engines run from approx 100psi to 170psi on compression whereas a diesel needs around 450psi to run.
