I need to build a Hard Top canopy for my TC55. I've got a sheet of 0.090 aluminun for the top skin. I think 52" wide and 65" long with a drip edge will work. My question is: in most of the production models I've seen, there is a dog-leg bend in the mounting plate from the ROPS. Is this necessary for function such and not banging your head or for some other issue. Can I just mount straight up from the ROPS. Here are two pictures from the web.
Any other tips or comments are appreciated.

I have a Perry canopy that I installed on my Ford 4610 with ROPS ( I have a different syle ROPS than your pictures. It looks like two tapered verticle box beam witha 4 inch pipe for a cross piece.)and the support comes right flush off the ROPS to the top. I think the original canopies are a "one size fits all" canopy and the different tractors have different width ROPS so those brackets are unique to the ROPS width not the canopy.

Don't forget to make provision to install some sound absorbent material on the underside of the top. Otherwise engine noise will be reflected down on you.

What material would you suggest for this?

I didn't put an edge on mine when I built mine a few years ago. Its cost me about $150 US dollars I think two years ago. But I did build mine so that I wouldn't hit my head when exiting the platform. I can adjust it up or down if I run into a height problem.

Hi , I built a canopy this year as I got tired of getting hit on the head by tops of birtch trees breaking off striking me on the head and snow down my neck during the winter plowing and built this one. I uses 1X 1 1/2" box steel for the frame for strength and lightness. I added a raised ridge later to allow the water to run off the side. have a look,
