I agree with the weeds and erosion issues...I had both to deal with and were a pain in the...

I did my lawn in 2 sections...the first half I started late spring to get a jump on removing stumps, boulders and correcting the grade. Then I just left it alone..whatever grew...grew. Late summer I went back and hit it with a landscape til most of the weeds were removed. Then I used one of those roofers torches and burned whatever junk remained, and raked it clean. Worked like a charm and no weeds returned.

edited to add...I too agree>>when I did mine for the 3rd time, I said it was the last...no matter what happens. Its alot of work, especially when doing it all by yourself

I think $2500 is an outstanding price. I haven't seen one that cheap on Ebay, craigslist, our local trader paper, or at auction. I think 2500 may be a red flag, unless the seller is desperate or is unaware of their resale value. The best priced unit I saw was a 6' lightly used one for about 3k, and lightly used means it didn't have any susbstantial issues.

I agree with your synopsis, do your own work then resell it. You should easily get your money back, unless there is an issue with the unit. From a cost benefit analysis, the benefits are marginal but the costs are so low as to make it advantageous. The benefits may increase depending on what you can do that the contractor wasn't going to do.

FWIW, i'm putting in my grass this spring and i'll see how it goes. Seed is relatively inexpensive. I agree that fall is better for seeding.

As mentioned, buy @ $2500, and even if you have to sell @ $1500, you break even. No possibility of tat if you pay a contractor $1000.

I'd suspect you could get MORE than $2500 at the right time of year.

Do your yard and potentially turn a PROFIT? I know which way I'd go!

Island, I'm justify the purchase to the war dept. with you in mind. So when I'm done I'll give you first crack at it. I'm driving quite aways to pickup so in the end I'll cost me more than $2500 but I like to see the sites so I feel ok about driving and plus diesels down so won't be too bad. I should know if I'm getting it later today so I'll let you guys know the results.

Maybe we should all pitch in and get it together. I don't know about the rest of you but I would only need it for about a half acre, maybe a little more. Trouble is I may not be ready to use it this season. However, if the device is essentially fully depreciated and in good operating shape it shouldn't be hard to just keep selling it to other TBN members in the Northeast.

Well, I picked up the rake and still can't believe the deal I got, clearly a needle in a haystack. I did have to drive all the way to SC to pick it up but the trip was cool. Since I know that this item is the type most won't need for more than a few days I'm going to offer to rent to my fellow LOCAL tbn memebers. PM me for rates and availibilty. I may be interested in borrowing an item you guys have so don't afraid to ask. I'll try and get some pics as soon as this lovely NE weather clears.
