My untouched 92 Dyna with 58k miles says otherwise (my old crotch rockets never went over 30k miles without major repairs) and my new XR1200 will walk away from any sports bike in the twisties! I know as I ride with many CBR's, YZF's and GSX-R's all 800-1000cc's and they HATE losing to a Harley.

My 650 Kawasaki Versys goes through the twisties like its on rails

I have 4 Harleys, My 2000 FXST has almost 50K, and my 1995 Buell S2 (built 1200) EATS twisties and is a total hooligan. The 2004 Road Glide had to sit for most of 3 years becasue I was traveling too much so it has under 20K...

I wish you both lived loser and we'd go riding!

I've only had one ride for the past 23 years. My '82 Honda CB900C. It has only been in the shop once, and that was just to have the carbs cleaned from using ethanol. Lesson learned! Anyway, a couple of summers ago I was in a group ride with a bunch of Harley guys who were having fun poking at my rice burner and wondering when I was going to buy a "real" bike. One of them even offered to sell me his Harley.

"It's almost three years old so it's time to trade it in," he said. Must be close to 4000 miles on it."
"I'm sorry your bike is worn out," I said, "My Honda is only 27 years old, so I've only manage to log 62,000 miles on it, so it's just getting broke in."

He didn't say another word the rest of the trip.

Joe,

I too have ridden with those guys... My bikes are dirty, if I have 2 hours to wash and polish them, then I have 2 hours to ride and I'd rather ride than polish. I ended up a Harley guy mostly because the bikes fit me and my riding style better. I once did 938 miles from Silverthorne, CO to Placentia, CA in under 15 hours, and I rode the same bike from Anaheim, CA to Fredericksburg, VA in 96.5 hours (I slept in Winslow AZ, Oklahoma City, and just outside Knoxville).

I was also a MSF Safety Instructor from 98-06 and I've ridden almost every bike you can imagine so I don't bother with the brand bashing. I just love to ride and prefer to ride with others who love to ride (and don't drink while riding). that is almost my whole criteria for riding buddies.

If you are ever near DC, lets go riding!

Be well,
David

PS - My tractor is dirty too... Same reason... I'd rather have "seat time" than "Shine time"...

This Triktor-Trailer has a bit of a cool factor to it, I would expect to see it parked along main street somewhere in Sturgis peddlin hot-dogs or chinese food from it. Certainly not for me. I'll stick to my 05 FLTRI (Road Glide) , Screaming Eagle Heads, Jugs, 259Cams, Pistons, the whole top end is S.E., PowerCommander, D&D Exhaust, S&S Double Tube Air Intake, whatelse...ummmm I think it dyno'd at 96ftlbs torque and 92HP. It moves nice.

The Triktor-Trailer (as suggested by another in this thread, very creative my friend!), subject of this thread, and the word Redonkulous somehow seem to go together well.

Someone finally caught on.... A Harley with a self contained trailer of spare parts, oil and recovery vehicle to get it home!

You're a stand-up guy, David. We seem to have similar views on riding. My bike is a mess of road grime. Perfect mechanically, but dirty from riding in every kind of weather. I also save my beer for after the ride. Alcohol and bikes don't mix well at all. I also catch crap from the "bad *** Harley guys" for my full-face helmet use. I've had two very close friends whose lives were saved by these "uncool" devices. To each his own... I'll keep my head intact, please. If I ever make my way back to DC (lived near in Seabrook, MD way back in '72) I'll take you up on the offer!

Get on your bike and ride!

Three points on Helmets.

1 - In 2000 when I rode to Strugis from Southern California I was THE ONLY GUY IN DAKOTA still wearing his full face helmet EVERY TIME I RODE! I kid you not, I was the only one I saw... I thought that was very sad...

2 - When I was an MSF instructor, I used to say "If you have a $5 brain, buy a $5 helmet" about helmets in general, and "I prefer to chew food with my OWN teeth" about full face.

3 - In early Nov I hit a magnetic sign black side up in the road while braking in traffic and broke my collar bone (bike is still in the shop too) and the pics show the damage my helmet took that my skull did not...

I look forward to your visit Joe!

Ride safe, shiny side up, rubber side down...
David

I never ride without a full face helmet.
I grew up on dirt bikes and snowmobiles and was upside down many times, so I know from experiance how much the full face helmets help in a crash.
My wife rides with me often and I would not take her without a full face helmet.
