Thanks for the replys and links. It should warm up later this week and I will let the stove burn out and try oven cleaner. Oven is self cleaning so I will have to go buy some... thought I had a can in the camper but didn't.

Where can you buy a stove like that ? How much ? And where do ya get the coal at.

We have an old Home Stead wood stove , it's about 20 years old.
The company went by - by.....

The old stove has seen it's better days.

I bought it used, one year old. $1600 stove for $700 with the optional hot water coil (not using). Coal is now $192 per ton so I don't burn unless it is really cold outside. 72,000 BTU's of pure heat. Burning coal is a lot different than wood. Cleaner but a lot more ash to deal with.

Most folks who burn coal in this area use the stokers. They are self feeding and use rice coal. There was a day when rice coal could be bought for $15 a ton because nobody used it, now it's close to $200 a ton. Coal is harder to start, I think the ignition temp for coal is around 900 degrees but once you get it going it produces a good steady heat. The stokers can be as small as 30,000 btu units and will go 60 hours before refilling the hoppers. I am using a 144,000 btu hotwater stoker that is heating a big old stone house and does a decent job. Seventeen years of constant running without one problem so it has been dependable.

Once I get the firebox heated to about 250 degrees using wood scraps, I can get hard nut coal to ignite. Stove pipe temp runs 300 - 500 degree range.

I just got a price from a store about 2 hrs from our home...
They said they could get 1 sent to our home for around , ( you better be setting down )....... $ 2700.00........... Is this right ??? , it must be one really good stove.

I found some coal on a pallet at my local Tractor Supply, last year for about $ 275.00 Ton.....

I like the idea of not having to build a fire every day with wood, and the coal stove burns up to 6 or 8 days, Self feed,

Corn is out of the question, it's around $11.50 a 100#, and on the rise..

We burned over 3 cords of wood so far,this year, we may have an early spring, the trees are starting to bud out.

I like that stove , BUT....... $2700.00.....??????? OUCH >>>>>>>>

Mine is not high tech... I use a shovel to load and shake the grates by hand... $2700 is probably about right for a self feed hopper rice coal burner.

Killer,
what kind of temps do you want to run the stove in?
do you get and stay below freezing?
I know with my hand fired stove, when the temps
stay above 40, it's time to shut down, as I can't
really run my stove too low. I know it's different
with a stoker that has electronic controls.
You said they have a pallet of coal, would more
be readily available down the road?
