I'm looking into buying a drag harrow mainly to be used to spread out manure and refresh pasture areas. Wondering if anyone has had good results with an ATV harrow? I'm considering one small enough to be pulled by a Kawasaki Brute Force 750 partially because my youngest would like to use it to smooth out inside a round pen I'm addition to my usage for spreading out manure. She made a good point that the ATV can fit through the round pen gate without taking a panel loose to make room for a tractor. I believe a small harrow should work to spread out manure and "refresh" pasture. Plan is to rotate horses and donkeys off of pastures to let them regrow and keep the animals from making everything a mud pit.
Any suggestions, comments, or ideas for something better?

You may have to add little weight on drag harrow.

I use this one for parking lot and driveway maintenance. It’s very well built and they should offer a size for your intended use.

Wingfield American Harrow - American Steel. American Labor. American Quality.

When/if I use it with my Mahindra 1538 I would probably not drop the backhoe to attach it. If the ATV could pull it there wouldn't be a reason to. Also, the ATV may just have the job by itself. With mud tires I put on for snow plowing it is very good at towing and things and has a lot of traction.

I also use a Wingield framed/lift Chain Harrow. Framed/lift Chain Harrows mount on a tractor's Three Point Hitch.

With 8 - 10 acres in pasture an investment in a tractor-mounted Chain Harrow probably makes good sense.

A Chain Harrow will spread manure, which will provide 5% to 10% of the nutrition grazed grass requires for max production. If pasture load will be more than a few animals, grass with require fertilizer to compensate for organic matter animals eat.

No Chain Harrow will correct compaction from horse and donkey hooves. For compaction relief on 5 to 10 acres you need an All Purpose Plow / Field Cultivator.

Mahindra 1538 Dimensions

Mahindra 1538 Weight
Shuttle ROPS: 3186 lbs
1445 kg
Hydro ROPS: 3175 lbs
1440 kg
Hydro cab: 3627 lbs
1645 kg

With ROPS, 4-WD and liquid filled rear tires your Mahindra 1538 will pull a 4-tine All Purpose Plow to full depth through moist soil for sure. With air-inflated tires it may not pull 4-tines to full depth.

With a cab and 4-WD your Mahindra 1538 SHOULD pull 5-tines to full depth, but not for sure.

For spreading manure look at a Tedder or Side Delivery rake. Either one should break up manure and spread it pretty evenly. Might also dethatch/aerate the pasture And help smooth it out.

Chain harrow has several ground engagements options depending on how you pull it. Makes a difference how much power to pull. Getting a small one for your atv a good option. Take awhile to cover 5 acres. Helps with pasture and animal health. Not a substitute for subsoiler, pasture renovator, lime or fertilizer. Local county farm extension love to help and advise how best to utilize land.
