That was actually the new Dragnet series!
I can't recall Friday's sidekick from the original series of the late 50's to early 60's.

Friday was played by Jack Webb, if you recall...

Harry Morgan's first flick was "The Ox Bow Incident"...very good western.

Ben Alexander as Officer Frank Smith--funny how you remember tiny details like that.

I remember seeing "The Ox Bow Incident" with my Dad when I was 5 years old -- a classic western.

Growing up in around Kirksville in NE Missouri, I loved MASH, as Col Potters character was from Hannibal MO, and Radar's character was from Ottumwa, IA, both a short drive away. That added a special 'connection' for me to the show.

As all have said, great actor, RIP.

Dean

Yep, and everyone remembers Col. Potter, but how many remember him appearing on M.A.S.H. before that as a General with mental problems?

That was when McLean Stevenson was still on the show...one of the few MASH programs I watched...

Yes a very big loss, I also remember him best in M*A*S*H and did see him in other movies and TV shows. Very sad. Who was the character he played in Dragnet? I can remember it shown here in Oz.

Detective Bill Gannon?

That was a hilarious role. I liked his song & dance at the end.

Yep, he played good guys, bad guys, serious roles and comedy. I liked that scene in Support Your Local Sheriff, where he was talking about his daughter "takes after her dear departed mother." James Garmer replies, "Oh, her mother died?" and Harry replies, "Nope, just departed.":D

I never watched MASH, but I did like the "newer" Dragnet series. Harry Morgan played officer Bill Gannon.
IMO, the Dragnet 67-70 series was the best.

You never watched M.A.S.H.? Oddly enough, I didn't think I'd care for it and never watched it when it originally ran. I know my Dad liked it. But years later, my wife and I started watching the re-runs and I'm sure we've seen every episode at least twice and probably 3 or more times.

But yes, I used to be a fan of Dragnet, both before and after Harry Morgan joined the cast.

Oddly enough Bird, I did not really appreciate Mash, until I had put in my time in the Guard? My father served as a Marine tanker in Korea, can you say" Mortar magnet"??He did not like Mash at all. I served in the Artillery unit here in town..Mash was humor directly at the military. Morgan played the better commander..
