Harvesting Hay

Mike and 5030,

You might think this is over kill for a mask but I could not help
thinking of what I bought as I read your notes.

A few weeks ago I started some work that required a good
quality air filter. The little white comfort/convience masks or
even a N95 one just where not good enough for what I was
doing. I keep some comfort masks in the tool box of my truck
to wear when I'm mowing at the property. Even with that I
still cough stuff up for a while after I am finished. While the
mask is good for mowing it has a couple of problems, it is
uncomfortable to wear and if I WORK and need to breath I
have to take the thing off. And it does not take much work
to have to take the thing off. I jumped in the back of the
truck to get a mask, hopped onto the ground, and climbed
up on the tractor. That little bit of effort required me to take
off the mask so I could breath. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It was so bad I griped to my wifey about it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway, I had to get a decent filter for some other work. I
got it at Ace for $30-35. It has paper filters and carbon
cannister filters. It is safe to use with paint, thinners and
things of that nature. Now that sounds like overkill for working
on the tractor but keep on reading! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The work I was doing while wearing the mask was some
bathroom deconstruction. Lots of work ripping out drywall
and tile. While I could tell I had on the mask I never had to
take it off because I could not breath and the thing was not
that noticible to wear. I would go outside to get tools or
cut some lumber and I would still wear the mask. I just did
not need to take it off. The neighbors likely thought I was
nuts wearing this to saw off a 2x4 but it was just easier to
leave on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The next time I'm mowing I'm wearing this thing! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The
neighbors near my property will think I'm nuts as well but its
my lungs and I won't be coughing crud up anymore! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So you might want to look into this though getting the wife
to wear one might be interesting!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

5030,

"I don't thin a women would wear one, they don't look fashionable enough."

You are absolutely correct. But I just thought of a great
marketing opportunity for the mask makers.

Just paint some of the masks pink.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Or maybe red. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Back to hay. We have had a dry spell where it has not rained
all week so I have noticed some of the farmers are starting to
cut their hay.

WOW Mike.....that's a lot of bales on a 6.5 foot bed. You must have been stackin them high.
Hmm, maybe it was only 40 bales. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I forget how many blue layers I had. If I had just one blue layer, the top layer sits one bale higher than the level of the cab.

You are overloaded good buddy!!
Um, er, let's see 40 bales at 40 pounds each = 1,600 pounds. Perfect match for my .8 ton truck. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Actually, it's a half ton truck with an extra leaf in each rear spring. The extra leafs make it sit higher in the rear when it's not loaded. With 40 bales of hay in it, it sits level. Sits level when we hook up the GN horse trailer, too. Fortunately, I only have to travel about 2 miles to get hay, over country roads. But, you are correct. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
