I want to build somthing to pull wire and 1/2" irrigation pipe about 12" deep. All the pulls/cuts are in a straight line. My biggest question is attaching the pipe. I could use a female coupling on the jig and glue a male on the pipe and do it that way. Does anyone have pics or ideas, I did not know what to search for so any leads would be great.

Thanks Steven

You don't pull them in - you plow them in. Attach a short piece of conduit to the back of your sub-soiler that is big enough for your pipe to pass thru with a medium radius bend trailing a short distance behind the plow. Feed the pipe or wire in the top of the conduit as you go. If you see a big ditch witch, look for a vibratory plow attached and you'll see the guides welded to the back of it. There is no limit to how far you go or how many turns you make since you are not pulling an element thru the dirt (that doesn't work)

Good luck,
Brad

notamustang,
Go to Yahoo and do a search for "irrigation puller". There's also is a lawn care forum that comes up when you do that search. You may be able to find help there.

While that is a great idea, I dont have a subsoiler /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I have seen the irrigation( flex) pipe puller on TV and thats what gave me the idea. If I remember the actually vibrated to keep the hole open.
I figured if I can get the mandrel large enough for 1/2 pvc than the wire would move through fairly easy. Thank you though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dang it Billy if your gonna reply cant you reply with the one your making and selling. I mean come on if you cant make the dang tooth bar for the world

notamustang, I borrrowed a potatoe plow, put a spear point on it to get is much depth as possible. Even at that, I could only get about 6-8' deep. I bent the top link doing it - with it plunged as deep as possible, the toplink was at an extreme angle pointing down and the compressing force bent the toplink. A subsoiler tends to be longer with more metal above and below the lower arms connect points. It depends also on how high your tractor is above ground.

I took about 4 ' of 2" gray plastic conduit, warmed it up by putting it on the exhaust pipe of the car, then formed a near 90 degree gentle curve, attached it to the back of the plow with 4 long stainless steel worm gear clamps . One person slowly drove the tractor and a second fed the black plastic pipe dowm the conduit. Make sure the conduit is plenty big so the black poly doesn't bind in the curve. After the pipe is knifed in I drove the tractor back over the slit and you could hardly see any damage to the lawn.

I've pulled miles of 1/2' poly back in my irragation days.We had a vibratory knife that had a "Chinese finger lock" thingie on the bottom that you just slipped the pipe into.Seal it with duct tape first!!! On the front of the blade there was a 1" "bullet" that made a hole for the pipe to run in.Go to an electrical supply house and ask for a wire strain relief. These are used to hook boxes to drop cords.

I built one to run wire, but it could also be used to run sprinkler hose in the same way. By removing one piece and attaching another, it could pull rigid pipe.

Here is a link to a photo of mine: wire puller sub soiler

I have laid about 3500 feet of wire for my dog's invisible fence using a sub soiler. However, to prevent noticable damage to my yard, I unbolted the tooth on the sub soiler. I also tack welded on flat metal skids on each side that keep the sub soiler at a constant depth. On the back of the sub soiler, I used a 1/2 inch piece of brake line that I used my pipe bender on to make it curve 90 degrees out. I also welded brackets on the top of the sub soiler to hold my suitcase weights that keep plenty of down pressure on the sub soiler (keeping it riding on the skids that are set at 4 inches up from the bottom. My last rigging was to weld up a simple spool holder on the back of the sub soiler that will hold a 1000 foot spool of wire.

I don't know how to do pipe, but I have laid well over 3000 feet of wire in less than an hour with my rigging.

What a great idea for uneven terrain.
