Randy, I know of at least one Oakwood plant that closed, so I don't know whether they're still building them or not. Ten years ago, I think Oak Creek and Schult were generally considered about the best quality, although Palm Harbor makes some good ones. And of course, Fleetwood is (or was) the biggest in the business. Naturally, it helps if you're buying a new one to learn in advance what you want. I agree with you about the floors, and some use the pressed board, but will at extra cost, build it with plywood. If you're ordering new, you'll have all the "options" you would in building a house; colors, cabinets, windows, doors, elevation, extra electrical outlets, telephone & cable pre-wired, kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures, and on and on. You can't just go by the company "name"; you have to look at the different models they make. In some cases, it's like saying you do or do not want a GM product without saying whether you're talking about a Chevrolet Cavalier or a Cadillac Fleetwood. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Maybe you really don't want any product by that company, but there are some considerable differences. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And that home of yours looks great; very nice.

I have seen repos that people have intentionally trashed. Never made much sense to me. Usually you are responsible for the balance after the resale. If you don't tear it up, you pay less in the end. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Randy......that is a great looking place! My wife would definitely like that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif .......probably alot more than I care to spend though. I will probably try to find a couple of local dealers just to go look at what they have to offer(both new and used). We can get by with a 2bedroom unit so a single wide unit should be more than adequate. Thanks again!

Bird,

Oakwood went belly up a few years ago. Clayton bought what was left of them. You wouldn't believe the research I did before we bought his home. Alot has changed in the last 10 years with manufactured homes. Several of the top names back then have changed ownership and the quality of thier homes are not what they used to be. Like Schults, once top of the line and now they are total junk.

We went and looked today. We can get a new 16x70 with asphalt shingles and aluminum siding delivered/installed for $29000. I think we are probably going to try to do that. All else that would need to be added is a septic tank($2100) and a water line from an existing well($1000). I can do the electric work myself because I am an electrician. I think that we are going to try to do this. I have always wanted to have a place to stay out at the farm......I can't believe it is fixing to happen!
