Has anyone traded their tractor for a UTV

/ Has anyone traded their tractor for a UTV #11
I can't imagine a UTV taking the place of a tractor. 16 years ago I bought a Kubota BX when I first bought my house. It had a FEL and a MMM. A few years later I bought an ATV for hunting and recreation. Another few years later I bought a ZTR mower, and a year later, I swapped the BX for a B2620-and then I bought an RTV 3 years ago.

I am happy that I have all these tools (toys)- but the BX did every thing all of my new equipment does-even brought a deer out of the woods in the bucket once-just not as efficiently as my assortment does. If I could have only one-and when I only could one-a tractor is my choice.

When I was under 35 years old,,, I pretty much had no use for a loader.
Now,, I hardly can look at a machine without a loader.

Social Security checks pay F I R S T for a loader,,, other machines are just for fun!!

I wouldn't get rid of my tractors but they don't get used very often now that I've got my Gator.....snow removal and typical moving stuff around the Gator is so much quicker and easier. The BX is not a very stable tractor and it really lacks power, it does some things well but for the most part it sits unused. If I have to lift something big that's a job for the International 2544....moving huge snow banks if needed is also a job for a fel.....that said I probably put 4 hrs on my utv for every hour I put on both tractors combined.

I don't put as many hrs on the RTV as all three tractors. But I'll put more on the RTV than any one of the tractors. Makes a lazy man outta ya to have around. I keep reminding myself to walk the 50yds from the barn to the machine shed rather than ride. :)

The lion's share of my hours come from snow removal and when it comes to snow removal a FEL works great but is slow as molasses even with the huge snow bucket on my International 2544.....the Gator 825i with Boss V plow on the other hand is a snow moving mammoth and it's fast. The Gator is quicker than my Super Duty with 8' straight plow used to be just because it's so manueverable.

I definitely understand that. I don't have the volume of snow to deal with that you do. My snow machine is a blade on the front of the JD.

Its as said by some of the above, it depends on what you have to do. If all your going to do is pull a mower, plow some snow, and haul some stuff around an atv/utv will likely work out for you, not everyone "needs" a tractor. I'm heading in this direction myself, I am to the point that the property no longer needs a tractor, all that is needed is mowing and plowing snow. I have no need to plow a garden, dig holes, drag logs or load anything and if I should find a need I can rent a bigger better and likely newer machine for some very highly unlikely project. I put less than 10 hrs on my compact mowing for the 2nd year in a row and never even mounted snow equipment, I started my GT twice this year so far and unless I need the snowblower it wont get used. My walkbehind GT never even got started, I pushed it out of the way once to get at something. I did put some hours on the lawn mower, I wont use the atv to mow the lawn. So its getting time to recoup some of the cash that just sits around the place doing little more than making sure the concrete floor it sits on doesn't blow away.

I've got a Jeep like that.

We had a Deere Gator XUV before we bought our Kubota. At the time we were looking at tractors we thought about a Toolcat. They are useful, but now we know they just can't do the work of a tractor. If we had to give up one now, it would be the UTV.

I used to mow with my cab B3030 tractor and a 72 inch deck. Then bought a zero turn with a 60 inch deck and cut mowing time in half, but the tractor mower stays unattached these days. So now I use my tractor for the bucket to move dirt in the summer and plow snow in the winter. It comes in real handy in the winter, obviously. I also have a Polaris 400 Ranger UTV. While riding our ranger I ran into a neighbor who had a larger ranger that had an enclosed cab with heat and air, and had a hydrologic system on the front for both/either a bucket or 4 way blade. On the surface that seems great, one less piece of equipment to maintain and store. Has anyone else done or considered doing this?

Happens all the time . Grandpa leaves Bubba Jr his lovingly restored family heirloom tractor. Bubba Jr can't sell the tractor fast enough to make the down payment on a boat, snowmobile, motorcycle, ATV or a jacked up diesel pickup with stacks.
