Has anyone tried to make a front mounted mower

since the last time i posted i talked to a few locals around here and im starting to like the idea of a separate engined one and make a front 3 point to mount it on

Have you thought of using hydraulics instead of a drive shaft to power the mower deck?

The hydraulic powered mower deck on our Power Trac is 60" and runs off of 2500PSI @ 8GPM. This should be easy to attain on most tractors with a PTO mounted hydraulic pump, a 10 gallon oil tank, a filter and some hoses. An oil cooler may also be required, depending on the surface area of the tank.

The nice thing about hydraulic powered mower decks is it frees you from drive shafts and all the bearings, supports and limitations in movement that are associated with shafts. The mower deck can be built to free float much easier. Also, you could mount the mower deck on the FEL arms if you have one. It will float just fine and you can raise it high for cleaning.

Yup only way u would want it. I think I have seen hydro mowers for skid steers as well. This is the only way I would do it too... Prob cost more then buying used Z mower though.
