Has anyone used a Kats magnetic heater ?

It will help but it's is no inline heater, not even close. Spend the money and take the time 1st time around you'll be better off.

An in-line heater is nice and what i installed on my New Holland. My current tractor is all hydraulic and the engine is an oil-cooled diesel so in-line is not an option. I used a couple of the magnetic heaters and they worked reasonably well.

I have a block heater on my tractor that is mounted in one of the freeze plug ports. For me, that's the way to go. All of my cars and trucks get those too.

I do have two of the Kats heaters I bought for my sawmill which has a 51 hp CAT diesel. The way the engine is mounted, it's hard to put the Kats on with full contact on the oil pan. I don't think heating the oil pan is as effective as heating the water jacket on the engine, so I bought a block heater for the sawmill, but I haven't installed it yet (thanks for the reminder - I hate working on engines in the winter).

I do use the heaters to heat the hydraulic fluid tank on the sawmill and I think they work very well for that.

Dick I've used these clip on lights under the oil pan with good winter starting results for many years.

Use a 60 watt on a diesel and you'll get the spin you need...the gas only requires a 40.

Where I live block (frost plug) or rad hose heater is a must!
Also found out the hard* way that 600 watts is a minimum for a diesel CUT!
2-300 watts is a waste of time while a 5-600 watt only needs about 1 hr heatup.

I tried the 200 watt magnet heater and even left on overnight did nothing.

*auto parts claimed 200 watts was all that was available, guess thats what they had in stock. Got a 600 watt on Ebay! (for less than the auto parts price to boot!)

should be 110. as far as kats magnetic heaters, i think they are junk. had one for a week and it tripped the breaker, sparks flew when i plugged it back in, and when it did run- it didn't do much for the starting of the tractor. i use an electric space heater near side of engine, but best would be a lower radiator heater. can get them for around $30 tractor supply. pretty easy to install.
