Last year our contract rate was $.99/gal but that was the intro rate for joining the co-op and starting propane service.

I wasn't too happy with the price at 143 but now it's looking good.

We locked in the price on a fixed-rate contract awhile back ..... not sure how long it's good for but I know it was at least a year.

Was going thru the folder with all the gas bills in it this past month .... there was an offer for an 8 or 10 year fixed-rate contract from about four years ago I think. The price was about half of what we are currently paying .... sure wish I had signed up for that .... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It should...that's LESS than HALF of what we pay! What a rip off out here. Could very well go up like other commodities.

We have changed our building plans to reduce (not eliminate) our propane usage by re-designing our solar system. It's more expensive initially but doing a spread sheet tells us we can recover our cost between 8 to 10 years. And that was when propane was still $2.49/gal. We stand to re-coop even sooner now.

I have to chime in here. I'm on the budget plan (averages over the year) at $160. My buddy is not on the budget and has a very old house in town with steel frame casement windows that leak bad.

$850 last month!!!!!!!

He won't modify the house. Says it is architecturally right. Yikes!

Scott, have you ever heard of OTEC ?

I have belonged to them for a couple of years now, Propane in your area last year based on your usage was 2.099/gal. delivered by Irving. Membership costs 26/year.

I am in no way affiliated with OTEC other than being a happy subscriber

Our natural gas budget it $74 per month...
That's with R19 in the walls and R38 in the ceiling... best upgrade we ever did!
We also locked into a low rate for three years for natural gas prices started climbing.

We finished our house last year. One of my goals was to have an energy efficient home. We have R19 walls and R38 blown in the attic most of the house, we used R38 batts on the high ceiling in the living room. We put in a geothermal unit with electric backup. The house is 2100 sqft and our highest e bill was $170.00. In the summer $100-$120 was typical. This time of year it runs around $75-$100. Our electric rate is currently (get it?) .083 cents per KWH.

We also have geothermal. Our highest bill for heat this winter was $32. This is for a 2400 sq. ft. house that sits on top of a hill. Definitely glad we put it in. We keep it set at 72 and never touch it.
