Hi folks,

Quick question about trailering a 2310. I just bought a 77"x14' tandem trailer to haul my unit. It does fit, but does not allow me to lower the backhoe boom onto the deck ( unless I swing it to the side and then lower it ) Is it best to lower the boom in transport, or is keeping it up and locked ok? Just wondering about bumps etc... I COULD go with a 16', but I use this trailer around the yard and am just trying to keep the length down for convience. That and my Ford is only a 4.6L so extra weight is a concern, :) Any thoughts ???

Hi, that's the same size trailer I bought for my 2310 and also the same thought I had on length. I do have brakes on both axles. After having the trailer for a year I would go with a 16' next time.
When loading tractor (have to back it on for BH bottom clearance) I raise boom and dipper, back on trailer, put BH back in locked position with bucket resting on back rail of trailer with front bucket near front end of trailer. After securing tractor, I do put a strap on each side of bucket and secure to each side of trailer to stabilize any lateral movemnt of BH arm.

Thanks, ya I may have to get the 16', it does fit with the hoe angled on the deck, but if I want to haul the unit with an attachment like my yard rake with bucket attached I need about 15'. I guess 2 more feet won't add much for weight, 50 Lbs ? now I just need more power, my little 4.6L struggles a bit at highway speeds....

Just adding my 2 cents here. I went with a 16 landscape trailer to haul my 2310 around. It fits fine with the BH boom down on the deck. It is still a bit tight with the bush-hog attached, however. I went with a landscape trailer to save weight as my old Chevy PU only has a 6 cyl. It pulled it fine but I ended up trading for an 8 cyl anyway. I considered a shorter trailer but decided against it and I am now glad I did.

Thanks for the replies.... is it hard on the hoe to leave it up and latched when hauling ( bumps, etc... ) ? Or should a person always have it on the deck? When you see the bigger backhoes on trailers, no onehas the boom on the deck, so I am not sure....

I don't believe it matters if you leave the hoe up or put it down. I have actually done it both ways with no problem. I put mine down most of the time because I believe it gives the unit a bit more stability going down the road.

I don't use a trailer for my 2310 I put it on the back of my MB pickup. I have hauled it about 3500 mi. 2 trips from OH. to TX. and 1 trip TX to OH. It does drop my mileage to 18-19 mpg because of the aero drag. And I use the retaining link to hold the BH to keep it from bleeding off since I have to swing the boom to one side to haul.

What is a MB PU?
How do you get a 2310 on it with the loder and BH attached?

In Europe they call this a pickup made by Mercedes Benz. It is as wide and long as a standard 1/2 ton US pickup.

I made ramps to load it. Easy on and off.

That's a pretty slick setup--I like it. I bet it maneuvers like a dream in town compared to a standard PU.
