Hauling a tractor

The Tractor I am asked to haul is A John Deere 4040 and right now it is being check out to see how wide it is. I hauled a Oliver 1850 on it two years ago, 8 miles and it fit just fine. I was told the John Deere weight was 9600lbs and I rounded it off to 10000lbs.

I'd run the tractor across a scale before I assumed anything. A 4040 is not a small tractor, my guess is with fluids, filled tires, etc it is way over 10,000lbs. We have a 2550 JD which is a much smaller tractor, and it weighs 10,000lbs with fluids, weights and liquid ballast.

I have a 2000 F350 and the GCWR is only 20,000. Is your F350 a dually? Do you know the GCWR? It should be 20k also. Empty weight of my F350 SRW is 7500 so max trailer weight is 12500.

I own a standard 18' long 10k rated car hauler bumper pull trailer and it weighs 2500 lbs all by itself. Your trailer will weigh more.

Per the above, you will be at or above the ratings of the F350.

Next is the receiver on the truck. Ford, for some reason, only puts class3 hitches on these older super duty trucks. That means max tow weight is 10,000 With a WDH hitch setup and half of that without WDH. You'll need to upgrade your receiver.

The truck has enough power to make the tow. The trailer has enough brakes to safely stop it. You're almost certainly going to be exceeding the ratings.

I had an 18', 14,000 lb bumper pull trailer that only weighed 2,700 lbs. Best thing to do would be take the truck and trailer to a scale and weigh them, and find out exactly what the tractor weighs.

To the basic question, about towing a 10K load on a 14K trailer behind that truck? With the proper brake controller and heavy enough hitch components, yes. I would want a weight distributing hitch though.

i would think it would be crazy to even try this i haulded a 4430 which is the same size tractor but the older model with out a cab on a daul tamden trailer and it was all the truck wonted that is to much tractor for a bumper pull trailer

and i haul that size tractor all the time and i would never try what you are wonting to try

but to figure out the weight find out if it has any front wieghts if so how many they weigh about 100lbs each find out if it has cast or stamped steel back rims if cast add another 1500 lbs to the weight find out if the tires or loaded or not and if it is 4wd or 2wd

i would guess it will be up around 11000 to 12000 lbs
