Hauling Dirt with Ford Golden Jubilee and ATV Trailer....

Nice vid, I've been looking into one of those type trailers as I want to be able to use an atv or compact tractor to pull it. I like the winch/cable lift system for simplicity and versatility but I'd prefer an electric winch over the hand one, not so sure about the walking tandem axle for yard use though it seems to me it would tend to tear up the turf making shaper turns?

MUTS trailers are the Gold Standard. I have one of the first generation MUTS models with a single axle, no longer available new.

I have used my fifteen horsepower Kubota RTV500/HST to pull my MUTS loaded with dirt on level Florida ground and roads. The nominally 15.8-horsepower Utility Vehicle with HST pulls it OK, although acceleration is slow. Slowing is hazardous. The load wants to jack-knife. For hauling dirt a tractor is safer motive power better matched to weight of trailer load.

Most of what I carry in the MUTS is brush and wood debris and water in big pails. For this the MUTS is superb and the hand winch entirely adequate for me at age seventy-one. RTV500 is entirely adequate motive and stopping power.

A Polar Trailer is much cheaper and even simpler but does not dump completely. Shop Lowes and HD via the web for Polar prices, single and dual axle models. Polar videos on U-Tube.

I have always been happy I paid the premium price for superb quality MUTS.

Enjoyed your video!

No video here but a similar project.

My larger tractor is smaller than yours, as is my smaller tractor. But my dump trailer pulled by the smaller tractor may be larger than yours.

Here are are a couple pictures. I am in the process of digging and moving about 800 cubic yards of earth, to change the slope of about 450 feet of bank so I can mow it.

The trailer is a 5 x 8 dump.

Thank you! Yes very similar setup! I really like your BX and dump trailer. Hydraulic dump is great!!! Those BX tractors are really handy machines.

You have a big project you are working on. That’s a lot of dirt moving!

Yes I really like my MUTS Trailer! I’d love to buy one of the single axle models. They are very hard to find used!

Looks like you really use yours a lot. Good pair with the RTV!! Tools in the bed and debris in the trailer.

Thanks for the real world review. For dirt hauling yes a tractor would be best to not get shoved around by the load a quad would be a bit light. The electric winch although not necessary would be for the convenience of not having to dismount to dump every load.

Anyone have opinion on the Dr versa trailer?

I think the DR Versa is made over seas. There’s a number of companies that offer same Trailer with their name on it around the world. If I’m not mistaken they are copies and then expansions of the original MUTS design.

Thanks for the comments the more I look around and consider one of these for my purposes I just don't see the need for the walking tandem, I think a single axle would be better suited to my needs. However single axle units seem to be less featured and dump angle is limited so it looks as if I'm back to square one,, building my own.

Even if you don’t traverse difficult terrain, the walking axle is really nice. It greatly reduces how harsh the ride is over bumpy ground. It does require more effort to turn because the tires must skid slightly. This is most noticeable if you are moving trailer by hand.

Another huge benefit of walking axle is having 4 tires. The large ATV tires really reduce ground compaction and don’t rut up soft ground. This is also very helpful in soft snow.

Question about the box shape on these, how do you like it? Only thing I have experience with is the normal flat bottoms,,, better or worse? I like the concept of keeping the center of gravity as low as can be and keeping overall height down to get over the trailer with the loader on the BX.

Box shape on trailer is fine. As you realize, dropped bottom makes MUTS trailer very stable empty and very stable under full load. I need the trailer to go everywhere my Kubota RTV500 goes, which is everywhere.

I've seen the pics of your and see its a single axle, would you say that the single is adequate for the loads?
