Build a sled out of 2x4s. Load them on the sled and drag sled up the road.
You may have to make more that one trip.

ron

Best idea yet. Fast and safe.

So here's the situation, I need to move 100 pieces of Hardi Plank siding that is 8 inches wide and 12 feet long, and weigh 20 lbs each, up a 300' gravel road that has a 20% grade. After trying it with some 1x4, it apprears that securing a 2x10 to the ROP and FEL will keep the siding from sagging, and small bundles of 8 pieces each will do the trick. I'm using a JD 870, 28hp, with a 420 FEL. Is there anything I'm not seeing?

Thanks
Thats not too steep of a slope -12degree. If it has no side lean it sounds good to me. I would venture you can do it safely in 2 trips.

As others have said.. I've done folley like that using a ladder and fence boards.. I probably wouldn't try it again as it was more work making it pseudo-safe.. than finding an alternate way to do it.

good luck

sled would be my initial choice ...next would be takin' the tail wheel from my rotary and puttin' it on the rear end of the sled ...now you got a trailer, no?

So you stand them on edge and put 3 on your left shoulder, then 3 on your right shoulder. Stand up and walk. 17 trips and your done!

Either that, or a trailer / sled. Being a wimp, I'd go for the trailer!

Go to Home Depot and get two of those $20 hand carts with pneumatic tires.
Build yourself a 2x4 support pallet about 8" wide by 10 ft long
Lay the two hand carts down and fasten the pallet to the cart using bungee cords.
Chain one end of this lashup to the drawbar on your tractor.
Fasten a half dozen of your HardiPlank pieces to the pallet with bungees and go.

is your drive over 12' wide?

clamp forks out of 2x4's to the FEL bucket, load planks on bucket forks and carry like a standard fork lift.

nothing to build, nothing to buy... carry low and slow... 3 trips?

^^^^^ Or something similar using the mower deck as the mule, for an even lower center of gravity.

oh id stack 20 or so on the back of my brush hog.... easy! ;)

you could even go long ways and shove them half under the tractor and strap them down.... then you wouldnt need the 12' width....

Another vote for the pick-up truck or trailer....easy, safe, fast load/unload and only one trip.
