I am interested to here from anyone who has a TC34-TC45 tractor with a FEL and Rottery Cutter as to how they transport it.

I am looking into trailiers and I am leaning towards a 18' Falcon Superduty I. But after looking at it and then looking at the overall lenght of the Tractor/FEL/Hog it appears that if you pull it up so that the loader will sit on the deck against the front rail that the hog will be hanging way off of the tail.

What type of trailers do you use to haul you rig around on?
How do you set it up (loader hanging off/hog hanging off???)

Thanks for the input you guys have been a great wealth of knowledge in my tractor purchasing exercise.

Mine's a bit smaller and green but the issue is the same. I have an 18 foot trailer, tractor FEL and hog. I pull all the way up so the bucket is against the front rail on the trailer deck. I then lower the hog and it sits on the trailer at the dovetail intersection (actually only 16 feet behind the front rail). On mine, the center of the hog is still forward of the contact point. Then I secure the whole thing down well including a strap across the rear of the hog.

You're probably a foot or two longer but should still be OK. I've seen a lot of rigs driving down the road like this /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Although I don't have my tractor yet/w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif, I know that I'll be doing a lot of trailering when I do get it. So I've been looking at this pretty close.

I'm convinced that if you have a tractor in the 25 hp to 40 hp range, you're going to need at least a 20' trailer, and you will still have something hanging off the end of the trailer if your tractor has a FEL and a rotary cutter. Most other implements will fit, but the rotary cutters are just too long.

I hope I'm wrong, because I'd like to get by with an 18' or even 16' if I could. But from what I've seen, a 20' is it! /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

By the time you tractor is far enough forward on a 20 foot trailer so hog doesnt hang over you most likely will have an over loaded tongue/hitch. Solve this problem with a flat bed or dump bed with fold down sides on you the truck OR gooseneck trailer.

I use a 16' since it is what we have and haul the TN with loader and 6' chopper on it. The chopper sticks out about 6' and I attach a flag to it. I only haul this setup short distances and have never had any problems. My ramps fold up so with the chopper in the way I either remove them which requires pulling a pin and removing a bar or I just chain them to the chopper. I have never had any problems chaining them to the chopper but will eventually get a bigger trailer. Another thing I can do but haven't tried is to let the loader float above the box and move the tractor up a tad more but that only works with smaller implements like a box blade or tiller so that I can raise the ramps. A 18'-20' trailer would be good for most compact tractors if you have to buy one. I would rather have too big a trailer then to small.

BNixon,

I don't have an answer on how big of a trailer you need, I'm still debating that myself. But I did measure my TC 40D w/ 17LA loader and Woods rotary cutter. It was 23' 10". That was before I installed the toothbar so I'm sure I'm over 24' now.

There is bound to be someone out there on the boards that has a large series boomer with FEL and cutter that trailers the rig.

After measuring I came up with the same dimensions Brad, just shy of 24'. That is a lot of cutter hanging off the end. I had thought of letting the loader float above the tongue but that would over load the tongue.

I don't have the option of a 5th wheel because I am using a Suburban as the tow vehicle.

I will be trailering the tractor all of the time and for extended trips so I need something that will be safe. I have even thought of leaving the FEL at the house but that will not always be possible (will need to use it).

Any other guys out there have similar rigs?

Thanks again.

Don't have your problems since I have a 24 foot gooseneck, but why not disconnect the bushhog and use the loader to load it, with the loader arms and bucket over the bushhog during transport. This should shorten your loaded lenght.

I was thinking it is possible to load the brush chopper seperate and lay it under the loader while trailering. Then when you get to where you need to just hook a chain to it and lift it off, or if your trailer is low enough you might be able to hook on to it by backing the tractor up to the trailer. This will allow you to use a smaller trailer and still not overload the hitch. Biggest thing would be if you can keep enough weight in front of the trailer wheels to keep the trailer from swaying.

HalseyGreen and Robert in NY,

I think you have my solution. Disconnect the cutter and load it first then let the FEL hang over the top of the cutter. I think this just might work!!!!

The Wheels on the 18' trailer are pushed towards the rear of the trailer so I think this should lend it's self to have a very good weight distribution. Thanks for the ideas. I knew you guys could come up with something!
