Have a dog that eats to fast for it's own good?

Strange how people apply human attributes to animals.

Dogs do not have a single "chewing" tooth. They are all about ripping tearing and getting it down the gullet.

Millions of years of evolution has passed to refine the process. But we humans somehow know better?

Sheesh!

What part of the Cenozoic did a pile of readily available dog food kibbles start appearing in plastic bowls?

If for whatever reason you have a dog that eats too fast for it's own good, see attached.

My wife found it, and it has been amazing with one puppy we found on our property.

We've had this issue from time to time with other dogs in our lives, but this is actually a pretty simply solution to slower their eating habits. They have no choice LOL

Funny thing, do a web search for dog bowls for dogs who eat to fast, and you'll find likewise products. Just so happens my wife stumbled across it at a pet store.

We have a boxer mastiff mix pup that is now 5 months old. We had the same problem. She would swallow the whole bowl in one gulp. So we bought one of these bowls and it didn't work. She still went crazy with it.

So I told the wife, lets just leave a full bowl of food out all the time like we used to and just watch if she eats too much.
Well now she just goes and takes a couple nibbles at a time throughout the day. Can't say this will work for everyone, but I found with my dogs they calm down when they know there is food there any time they want it.

we have a dog with stomach problems (since puppy and to this day) and this has been our experience too. He is now 13. His bowl is full 24/7. only sucks when he has guests over. :p

Leaving the bowl full outside we found critters lining up after the dog has a nibble Magpies First Then stumpy tailed Lizards then one year we had inch ants those ants are aggressive and have a painful bight the odd Possum and these tiny marsuipial mice non invasive interesting to watch comming out of the garden when the coast was clear, then the cats feeding time was a laugh the magpies would stand back squarking on the table and wait till the cats were finished then come straight in with the cats still on the table and clean up the cats bowls.

Currently with 6 dogs, leaving food out on a regular basis would not work.

Heck, it doesn't even work out for 3 cats LOL

I have read that dogs that eat fast are at risk for getting a twisted stomach that can kill them in just a few minutes. Having dogs for over 50 years we have had one die from that (Great Dane) in a matter of minutes. Not enough time to get him to vet 4 miles down the road. Seems it effects large dogs more that small dogs.
An old GF lost a donkey to the same ailment. It's a painful way for them to go. :(

We had 5 cats in the house over Thanksgiving and Christmas. No issues with a full bowl of kibble the entire time. They do get along pretty well, but sometimes it's like having a herd of wild monkeys running through the house. :ROFLMAO:

We had three big dogs and two cats.

A Menagerie it was!
