I took my backhoe off to mess around with the 3 point (I bought several things at auction this weekend). I noticed this guard (see pics) was in the way of the lift arms on the 3 point. I removed it. It also made it much easier to tuck my hydro lines for the hoe further away. While I was at it I removed the centerlink "holder" as I won't be using it much at all. IMG_2641.JPGIMG_2642.JPG

Did you intend to ask a question? I read the post above.... 3 times. You state your actions and observations. If you have a question, I'm sure the great folks on this forum will respond to it.... after you ask it.

That is the PTO guard plate. It would only have been interfering with your lift arms if you didn't rotate it into the DOWN position. There is a bolt point for locking it in a tilt position when the backhoe is on and then you loosen the bolts (12mm) and rotate it down to a horizontal position when using the 3-point/PTO. There really is no substitute for reading the manual. I'm glad you didn't cause any damage, but the guard is to protect anything falling down on a spinning PTO shaft.

I actually referenced the manual. Here are all the pages on the 3 point operation....notice nothing about the shield or moving it.....alas I decided to re-read the "safety section" chapter 1....there is a small mention of a guard but not it's operation (last picture posted). Thanks for the info. I only have non/pto ground engagement equipment so I will be leaving the shield off as it really frees up room, especially for my top and tilt and 3rd operation lines I'm running....that's for a different post.

I guess for what it's worth did your manual actually say something about this shield operation?

It seems just about everything these days isn't what it used to be, including the manauls. I just recieved my factory thumb and there was some excessive weld bead keeping it from going into "storage location" a quick grind fixed it...but none the less something new and needed "fixed".....

Even on my (now) old 2310, I quickly removed that guard --very similar to yours-- and have had it in storage for the last 10 years.... Paint's still nice & shiny on it! Don't miss it at all.
