Have you ever been shot?

I'm still amazed that I never had a ricochet with our little Daisy BB gun when I was a kid. My sister and I used to play a game called "ping" - the fence in our backyard had blown over during a hurricane so my parents had a heavy-duty fence put in with metal poles to keep it in place. The poles were about every 8-10 feet (identical to chain link fence poles, but they attached to a wooden fence.) We'd see who could hit the poles fastest (and not miss) shooting from the back door; they'd make a "ping" sound when you hit them.

I have however, been shot "at" but not actually hit while dove hunting in south Texas. My so-called buddy saw a dove fly over me and he shot at it, thankfully I saw him point the gun and ducked in time; I got showered with pellets but nothing penetrated. I gave him a good reaming after that, and never hunted with him again.

At Scout camp one of the attractions was the Range... 13 year olds working on a marksmanship merit badge... can't even imagine the uproar if the powers that be got wind of something like this.

The rules that surround the range are rigid. We can no longer setup our own range and do the merit badge. We have a whole book that covers what we can not do.

My uncle shot my cousin once. He mistook him for a deer.

How is it possible to mistake a human as a deer? I could never understand that. Alcohol wouldn't even make a man look like a deer. LSD? Even stupidity isn't an excuse.

Yeah, partridge/woodcock hunting in my yard in Maine maybe 15 years ago. Two friends, one of which apparently shot at a woodcock with a 20 ga and peppered me instead. It was serious with maybe 75 hits in my Filson vest but only three got me. One in my hand required mico-surgery and two in my thigh, one of which was periously close to Mr Happy. One pellet in my shotgun stock and the vest looked pretty bad.

I called Filson to tell them of my good fortune with their product and they yawned in disinterest since they said there were many more severe hits than mine. I, obviously, am sold on Filson. My friend could have easily been hung out to dry and the game wardens spent a long time getting me to implicate him for an unsafe shot. I didn't.

The upshot of it all was that my frind never even apologized. Since I was told he was on the phone talking with an attorney in the hospital waiting room, my guess is an apology would have implied guilt on his part. I let him skate cuz aguy that acts like that will always act like that and my bills, vest and shotgun were paid for.

I was a little woozy but since I declined a general anesthetic was back on the road partridge (grouse) hunting the next day. Left the hospital at 2 AM and we met at 7 AM. Oh, not with him. The guys wouldn't give me any live ammo and I slept all in the truck.

A buddy shot me during a dove hunt at about 60 yards. It felt like it hit me from head to toe. Luckily I had my back turned and none of the pellets broke thru my clothes. But I did have a bunch of raised red welts.

Same guy, on accident discharged his shotgun in his basement. Almost killed his dog. Another time, he was driving with a .22 pistol in his hand on the steering wheel and it discharged. It shot out his wing vent window. Don't see the guy much anymore and sure don't hunt with him.

WOW!! Glad they were okay,Ultra!Served that guy right to run into a tough ol'guy like your Dad. don-ohio :)^)
Both my Brother and Father were shot at during botched robbery attemps... both were at close range... missed my brother who was working his way through school as a nighttime mini-mart gas station cashier.

My Dad was grazed as he struggled with the robber that burst into his office at closing... Dad was 71 and the robber 19. Dad was at his desk and the robber demanded Dad open the safe which there isn't one... Robber said something like open it or die... Dad thought this could be it since there was no cash or safe on the premises and never had been one. Robber didn't know that years ago Dad was the US Heavy Weight Boxing Champion and could still get in a good punch.

We're still trying to figure that out. In story I mentioned earlier, buddy Tim was shot at 90 yards. Guy had a 3-9 scope. 90 yards, even at 3x from a 3-9x40 scope? I have shot a lot with 30-06 and 308 with a 3-9x40 scope. No mistaking a person at that range. Besides, around here you have to go forked horn or more.

90yds.. heck.. I open site some targets at up to 100 on the range. no way to mistake a guy for a deer unless he had on a buckskin coat, and a had with antlers and was standing on all 4's and had a puff of paper towwles sticking out the back of his pants. :(
