Indeed! Especially if you don't have a second tractor to lift with. Also, bent-up steel makes the fasteners hard to remove sometimes.

I keep it up all the time, and would just clamp lights or whatever else you want on it. No worries then from anyone.

one time I had mine down in order to pull my tractor to the Garage, I was too lazy to lifted back up since I knew I was going to pull my tractor back in, and I had no reason to put it up. I was in the back by the 3 point hooking up my snow blower when I stood straight and my head hit the ROP, it was just at the right height for my to knees to lock straight, it felt like it compressed my spine it hurt for a few weeks... now I put it up right away just for that... and I can see it saving me when going in the bush from dead limb... I am a lot more comfortable with it up in the bush...

I folded mine down once to get past a low metal carport. Once past I stopped and put it back up, repeated when I left. I don't want an image of my tractor upside down posted here.

My small orchard was set up without a decent sized tractor in mind for mowing and I positively have to fold my ROPS to mow the 70-80% that I can reach without too much backing. ROPS goes right up afterwards.

The majority of my operation is on flat and I often don't wear a seat belt for that due to all the getting on & off & on & off, but any time I'm doing anything on a slope the seat belt is on.

That's certainly a tractor survival story like I've never heard before! Kinda sucks that it made your tractor unavailable though.

I'm a live coward - the buzz word is "live". ROPS is always up and seatbelt fastened, wear a helmet every time I ride a motorcycle, always fasten my seatbelt in a car.

Yeah this stuff can be a PITA sometimes, but when there's an "Oh sh*t!" moment, you don't have time to put up the ROPS/put on the helmet/fasten the seatbelt.

It may be a cliche but better safe than sorry, and WAY better safe than dead. Always remember, Darwin is out there and is always looking for new recruits. Don't help him.
