Have you ever turned over a tractor?

Wolfneck. Congradulations on your expansion . Don't sub it out! Plan it out ! Get a clean well maintained and safe tractor, a good chain saw, and a grease gun.. Scout it out and mark/flag any obstacles, wet areas. And go at it! ..Don't look at it as a job......look at it as an adventure and as a good excuse to buy the tractor you've wanted for 20+ yrs. Good Luck, Frank

Haven't turned one over but have had the hair on the back of my neck go up...

Have responded to multiple equipment rollovers because of Fire Calls...one was a fatality involving a towmotor tipping and crushing the operator under the cage...was NOT wearing his SEATBELT!!!

Most of the tractor rollovers have been the classic over the back, primarily trying to pull out stuck equipment and a couple of side tips, when ground gave out...The tractors were a mix of ROPS and No ROPS...all of the ROPS events had no fatalities...the same could not be said for all of the no ROP events...:(

It would be interesting to see the demographics of these new "farmers".

I think the new "farmer" is actually someone who has cashed out or checked out of the suburb/city lifestyle and is trying the "farm" life. Along the lines of the mega-acre farms being "developed" into "hobby"-"mini" farms.

This in turn contributes to the population in the "country side" and the accident ratios we could be seeing.

What say TBN?

....Some-body is thinking like me....?

I missed this post some how. I have to agree with you. I have thought that for the last few years.

What the **** is a tilt meter ....? Never heard of it until i found this web site .
So i went and tried a couple , And to me they seem like something that could cause an accident rather than save one , Every one was different . Somebody who has never used a tractor needs to learn their tractors capabilities , Not rely on some junk that could be innacurate or improperly fitted , You need to trust your instincts not some gadget. I'll go with the "pucker factor" and common sense . Any roll-over i've been in i caused my-self and knew i was pushing the boundaries . You should see some of the hills that we log it defies gravity ? If we relied on a tilt meter we would never start some jobs . I don't like water filled tires on small tractors ...If you need weight... add weights like suitecase weights the weight is lower to the ground and can help your center of gravity .

Beg to differ. I use it and my instincts, expierence and inner voice.

I never knew what 25 degrees was until I had some instrument show me.

I knew it felt bad, but now I can see it. IMHO they complete the picture for me.

I´ve been using the red Japanese 1500D for ten years now, have known from the start that it is very tippy.
Several times I felt as though I've come close, but never had a problem.

Last week I was using the JD 301 for grading and the wife was on the Red 1500D moving some fill. I had a premonition about her and went to check to make sure she was still safe. As I rounded the corner, there was my premonition in real life, tractor on its side, wife laying on the ground.

She gave me the OK sign to let me know she was alright. She only suffered a few minor scrapes and a severely bruised pride.

What happened was she backed into a rut made by those Rice tires , had the loader too high, and then lost control. Maybe the loader being too high saved her from the tractor completely rolling over her. (It has no ROPS.) So I got her into the house to recover, then used the JD to right it and pull it out of the ruts.

This convinced me that we needed a wider tractor with a ROPS, so we got a Kubota B3030 this week. Granted, an L series would be wider, but at least its significantly wider than the 36 in. width of the Red 1500 and it has a ROPS.

I was pulling a skid steer out of the shop once that someone else worked on and the motor shut off right as I went out the door. Of course there was a steep hill starting there. It ran away on me and about 150 yards later came to rest upside down against one of the new tractors parked in the bottom lot. That sucked!

The other time I was dumping a wet load of manure over the edge of another hill there and the ground gave way beneath me causing it to end up upside down about 50 feet below with me in it.
After that first one running away on me I learned to wear my seat belt. Thankfully!!!! I wasn't doing anything dangerous in either case, just the wrong place at the wrong time.
