Have You Ever Won Anything Big?

One of my friends won $12,000,000.00 in the Louisiana Lottery years ago. He received a check for about $400,000.00 every November for 20 years. He was the type of person who would get paid on Friday and be broke by Monday. Nothing changed. Within the first year he had spent his $400,000 and borrowed about $5,000,000 more. Every year after that in November, he would buy a new truck, take his family to Disney World, go on a gambling cruise and come home broke a few weeks later. Then he would get a job as a carpenter for the next 11 months. This November was his last check. He got to keep nothing as he had to use it all to pay some of the bills he owed. Now he owns nothing and owes more than he ever did in his life.

As frugal as I am, I can not even imagine spending 12 million in my lifetime.

I don't have any cites to back it up, but I've read many times that the majority of lottery winners end up in poor financial shape in a relatively short time.

I guess at first the money just seems endless, but of course it's not. My financial planner told me that the best thing is to take a lump sum and invest it in something that will pay out for your lifetime, or your survivor's if that's what you want.

An article in our local paper yesterday list a lottery winner in our small town. He won $154,000.00.

Since it looks as if no one on TBN has won anything big, that must mean someone is due. And it might as well be me!

Does a state basketball chanpionship in Pa. back in 1961 count. Or how about a Supebiowl raffle in 1967. Other than those two, no. But am waiting for Ed McMahan to come to the door.

I bought a car from a man that won a $79,000,000 lottery.
He bought something like 20 cars all decked out to the max with every option you can imagine. Cloth tops, all leather, vogue wheels tires ect....
He kept them all in a warehouse in Montana until he passed away a year later. I was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time to buy it.
It sure made my wife happy!

Dudley, the very first lottery winner in Oregon won a million dollars back in the 80s, within 2 years he was more in debt than when he started.
His relatives came out of the woodwork to help him spend until it was all gone. He did buy 2 new John Deeres for his farm.
He lived in our town and the newspaper followed everything he did

I don't think it would be hard to spend 12 million dollars in a lifetime, but spending it and having nothing to show for it, might take a fool a little less time. I could probably spend 6 million in one day, on a dream plantation located up next to our property in Georgia. However, due to timber, land, buildings, equipment and other things, I probably wouldn't be considered "broke". I might have a full time job keeping the poachers out of the deer herd that is currently on that place.
