Have you noticed what happens to some TBN Members?

First off....I actually decided to join this thread simply because I want to be a part of the community too!

I think that members coming and going is simply a part of the virtual geography. For many people (certainly in the U.S., and probably elsewhere) there just isn't the time to commit to any one thing. There may be a time that they get a little free time to surf the web, and run into TBN, or as others have said, they have a specific question about buying or repairing their tractor. After that, the external pressures of life force their focus elsewhere. Research has shown that humans can only handle about seven different things, before something has to be pushed out to make room for the next item. I myself have so many things to do with friends, family, farm and work, that I could easily let TBN drop. I have made an actual decision that I want to be a part of the TBN community, and to read and discuss and make comments. Some of the comments might be flippant (or possibly interpereted as rude /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif), and some are questions and some are opinions or answers.

I think that for a member to stick around and become active requires that they actually be interested in TBN and the multitude of topics being discussed at any one time, as opposed to simply looking for a quick reference encyclopedia.

I agree and I could add, "The wish to help others". I've been around farm tractors for quite a while but I had no experience of CUT's. I learned SOOO much from this board when I was doing research before buying the B2400 and I still learn something every day. It's fun being around such innovative people and the imagination shown by some of the members amazes me.

One of the interesting things is that there is such a vast array of subjects covered on this forum, not just CUT's.

Unlike some, I have never found anything on this board to be offensive, which shows the moderators do a good job and that the members, although their opinions may differ, always treat others with respect. Sure, occasionally things can become heated but it never degenerates to the point of being personally abusive.

All I can say is that I am glad to be a contributing member and that TBN forms part of my morning routine. Thank you all, ladies and gentlemen, for your opinions and advice and for what you have taught me over the years.

Lurk no more, join and be a contributer. Let others learn from your experience and insight.

Maybe, but at certain times of the year chores have a way of building up to the point where I simply don't have time to spend inside. If it's daylight, I need to be outside with the pets, livestock, crops or firewood. And when it's dark, buddy, I'm in bed! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Exactly! That is the reason I say that the desire to be a part of the TBN community has to be an active and preconceived notion. It can't be "just something to do". I am sure that many many many of us can fill a 28 hour day with all the things we need to get done.

Then again look at my boycott on the 19th thread
you boys took me to task and racked me over the coals for that one, then it took a weird turn about economics & the wars

Well . . . boycott because of fuel prices --- > the affect of boycotts on prices ---> the issue of pricing in economics ---> etc. etc. As someone once said, one thing leads to another. If it gets toooo far afield its called "hyjacking". Actually, OkeeDon and I had a serious discussion of serious intellectual issues.

But, you're right. It was your thread. Sorry.

I guess some folks just have their questions answered and bail. Sometimes "we" may not be the type of people they want to hang around with. Maybe "we're" too helpful. Or not helpful enough. There are folks here that have many posts that don't even have a tractor, altho most of "us" here do. Most, if not all of "us" like being around folks like "us". Or people we would like to be.

Some folks just like to hang out at forums that belittles or makes fun at its members. Not me-I'm too old for that.

This forum, this group of mostly never met each other, likely never will, this "community", is a great place to kick back at the end of the day and read about like experiences, with pretty decent sounding people telling the tales, tall and otherwise. I like being here with all of you. I like reading about your tractors, your projects, your land, your Towns, Counties and States. I knew from the feel of it 2 years ago before I bought my tractor that this was a place I would like to spend some time at. Some people don't and won't stay. I guess they know whats best for them.

But for me, thanks for being the folks that you are and contributing to a great place on the web.

I can only answer for myself as to how "active" a member I am here ... When I first came /found this web site it was at the time I was in the market for buying a tractor . The members here answered the many questions I had to what I thought I needed and what I did not know I needed , ...
After the purchase of my tractor (my first time as owner ) I again came here to ask questions and to get answers to a new set of questions ....I am now at the point where I still read all the different boards to stay informed and on the rare chance that my experiences can be of help to those that follow after me ,,This I do as a Thank You to all here for the help that I have received . So I read the posts here almost every day even those of other brands that I do not own and if I can answer a question or give help I do , but I will not like some other boards I read join in with to add I agree / disagree on a given topic if it has been answered so well to begin with ...

It's about the same for me. I "check in" almost every day, but don't have a lot to add, except for the "me too" or "nice photo" types of posts. Am I "active"? sort of, I guess, but in a reader way rather than a writer way.
