Having a weird electrical issue with my G194

Follow-up? Did the rectifier solve all issues, or did/does the starter need repair too?

Thanks,

CM

I have not had the time to install it yet and I still need to deal with the starter relay also. It does not look like that is easy to remove. I may have to take off the shroud that covers it. The easiest bolt that holds it on just seems to turn but does not come out and I can't get to the other side. (One of those things that was installed and is meant to last a lifetime...but this one didn't. ) Which means i have to take off the steering wheel also. someone is asking $75 for the relay which includes $15 for shipping. I seriously have an ad on Craigslist looking for a compatible tractor that I can use for parts since I have 2 of these. Since the G194 and the G244 are pretty much the same except for engine displacement it will be worth it in the long run.

IMHO I should deal with the starter relay first so I don't screwup the rebuild job on the Alternator. In the meantime when I get the time I think I will take the starter off and test it for any mechanical or electrical issues.

Doers that process sound like a reasonable way of dealing with the issue?

Yeah, not an uncommon problem, possibly caused by disconnecting the ground cable while engine was running, but could have been something that got fried before you owned it too. The rectifier converts alternating to DC current which the battery and wiring on your tractor need to run.
Does it have a built in voltage regulator too?

BTW, there is still something wrong with your starter, and or your wiring, so before risking doing damage to you newly rebuilt alternator check all of it out from ignition switch through the entire harness. You have no idea what the prior owner did to it, right?

Pics? Hours on your rig?

I am not there right now but as I remember pretty low hours almost 400. but I think they were hard hours. The original lights do not work and they put some bug-eyed headlights on. The G244 has about 1000 on it but it also has a front end loader (same owner) so I can see why that may have been used more. As I understand it I am at best the 3rd owner

I was just thinking which was spurned on by your comments concerning checking the wiring, help me out here. If the starter relay clicks could that mean it is fine but the wiring down stream is faulty.........and that still means taking off the shroud and removing the steering wheel doesn't it..............LOL!!!
