go with the roller fairlead anything that drags something across it will always build up friction and friction causes heat and that tears up stuff. keep the rollers lubed up with some spray on lithium grease. the hawse is really only good to me if your pulling straight on and in most cases your not that lucky to have a striaght on pull when your stuck.

I agree with Tommy,
Rollers are the ONLY WAY TO GO !!!!

I have never been lucky enough to winch straight ahead like folks show on advertisments ~~~~~

thats one huge winch. it' looks hydraulic so what weight can it pull? and do you have to worry about the rope at the bottom of the spool rotting or corroding from never being unspooled . you can pull up to the beach with that thing and sharpin up the hook put some meat on toss it out there then jump in that nice cab pop the top to a cold one and go fishin bota style.lol

its a 5400 lb hyd. mile marker. It can work underwater. It can go front or back. Its from Winches Plus. A hard point or dead man where I am is often difficult to find. There isn't a tree within 200 miles. Usually I have to use a pullpal, find a hummock and dig to permafrost ice. I even have extensions to go on the end of the already available 200 feet of synthetic (will not rot) line. Ice covered river crossings sometimes mean winching from the far shore.

Hawse fairlead is best for synthetic cable.
Where the side and top rollers meet the synthetic ropes are subject to get pinched. Synthetic ropes flatten out when stretched and the cables stay rounded.
The aluminum hawse fairleads are very smooth.
The roller fairlead will work with either cable. The hawse should only be used with synthetic rope.

Its a nice winch but the RTV needs to be running to use it. That is the big draw back of as many have found out. A electric winch can be rigged to attach to the deadman and cable out to the machine, Take the battery out and power up the winch.

that would be one downside to the winch but on the otherhand the hydraulic winch will outlast an electric one . i know when i have used my electric winch and had to pull a far distance it ran my battery down even with my hpx running . thats why i had to add an extra battery i felt that the charging system and alternator output just wasn't there to keep up with it. after i added the second battery i stopped getting blown fuses on the charging system before the battery was added and i used the winch i would have to shut off my lights (headlights) and run the winch . like you said deerlope for the hydraulics to work the engine would have to be running so that would be a very!very !big proglem if stuck and the engine died.there are 12 volt electric pumps you can probably get well i know you can get but they would only last for so long and i wouldn't recomend it with a single battery system but it would be a good backup to have a aux pump to work the winch if the motor died.
