Hay Bailer for new TC

Just put the first few hours on my new TC33DA (purchased in January ’06). I spend the last 20 years using a 1952 AC CA on my place. What a difference! I love the old AC but this new tractor is nice. Two mistakes I made in getting the NH #1. I didn’t get the FEL because I didn’t think I would use it but I now I wish I would have ordered that 2. I wish I would have gotten the next bigger tractor TC35 because I want to pull a hay bailer for small square bails. I was told my only two options to bail with a tractor this small was a AC rotobailer or a NH 271 with a Wisconsin engine on it. If I don’t find a solution I may go back to the NH dealer and upgrade to a bigger tractor. I just found this site the other day and thought I would try it out. Thanks

They have small round bailers,drum mowers,tedders and rakes for small tractors. I don,t have any experience with them, but they look interesting.

You'll definately want a larger tractor if you square bale. It isn't so much the horsepower as it is the weight of the tractor. The baler will shake the lighter-weight tractor all to pieces. Even with my TN65, my NH 315 jars me around quite a bit.

The Amish use the balers with on-board engine; you might check in the Pa/Ohio area for one...if you can find one.

I sure wish attachment manufacturers would stop just listing horesepower requirements and add tractor size/weight to their recommendations, where appropriate.

Yes, That would be quite a ride if I hooked a square bailer to my TC33da ... If I could hang on . The little bailers they make for small tractor's are over 6k in cost... so in my area I could go get an old tractor & baler for less then that . There are several old pastures on my place that are hard to get into with anything larger then my NH .

It is more the size of the tractor, than the hp. A NH 271 or older baler only uses 15hp or so to run the baler. _But_ they store about 50 hp in that big flywheel, so your tractor drive train needs to be able to handle the shock load of the 50 hp tail waging your dog. As well the baler will weight about as much as the tractor, and will be hard to control with it being off-center. The plunger rocking back & forth will also shake a light tractor pretty hard.

Hp is not the issue, as others say.

There are many models of NH balers that had Wisconsin engines on them, 271 or older - not just the 271. Just a note - Wisconsin engines are just a tad tempermental. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Don't shut it off until you are done for the day - you ain't restarting it until it's cold again. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I actually seen a NH bailer with a Wisconsin engion the other day . It sure sounds funny hearing the tractor running & then the engion on the bailer running at the same time. Actually my frind has a Ford 4000 & a JD square bailer so if I use NH to make the entry into the feilds wider he will let me use his to bail & I'll give him some of the hay . Thanks for the feed back!
