Hay feeder for large stock

/ Hay feeder for large stock #11
I built this one for 4x5 round bales after going thru several of the round ring type, which either the cows destroyed, or I did trying to move the cheap pieces of junk.

6x6 oak posts mortised into 6x6 locust runners with a steel "T" plate lag screwed at the joining point. Rest of it is 2x oak. 1.5" square tubing makes up the back (fixed) and the front (hinged to load). Roof keeps the bale dry. They don't waste near as much as the old round rings.

2 done two more to go.

$35.00 ea. in material.

The last two should take about 2-1/2 hours to build each. I'm going to rim the top with 1x3 pine straping so the horses do not nibble on the PT lumber.

Wonder how they will work with the cows?

I don't think they will last long with cows, just my opinion.
